Is it possible for Connect app to use Foot Pod for speed directly? (no watch)

Preface - I do a lot of treadmill running, so I am heavily reliant on my Garmin Foot Pod. I do not want to wear my watch indoors, but I DO carry my smartphone for music. Previously, I used the Garmin FIT app, which along with my phone's built in ANT+ sensor could talk directly to my Foot Pod. This worked beautifully for many years.

Question - On my Android 6.0.1 phone, I can no longer sign onto myGarmin/Connect using the FIT app, nor does it appear to even be available in Play store? I assume this means it's no longer supported and I'm supposed to be using the Connect app instead? The problem is, unlike the FIT app, Connect doesn't seem to be able to talk to my Garmin Foot Pod directly? How do I get the Connect app to use my foot pod for speed indoors on the treadmill? (Or FIT to login into myGarmin?)

Thanks,
  • Garmin Connect does not have such feature.

However, you should still be able to install and use the Garmin Fit app. It's not visible when searching the play store, because indeed it is not supported any more, but if you start the "Play Store" app, and then select "My apps & games" from the menu, and then the "Library" tab, then there you should find the Garmin Fit app, assuming you are logged in to the same Google account as you were when you made the Garmin Fit purchase.
I have a brand new smartphone with Android 9, and I was able to install and launch the Garmin Fit app this way.

Thanks for this. I do still have the Fit app installed, and now I know how to reinstall it if I ever need to.
My main issue is the Fit app will NOT accept my Garmin password no matter what I do, so activities are not uploaded.
Are you still able to log into your myGarmin account through your Fit app?
  • It used to work not so long ago, but now indeed logging in is not possible. It is still possible to use the app offline, but I'm not sure if it's possible to extract the recorded activity for manual import into Garmin Connect.
