Use smartphone GPS for activity tracking

I own a vivomove HR which doesn't have GPS. Are there any plans to let Garmin Connect make use of the smartphone GPS for tracking my workouts?
  • Likely not, being that they sell watches/devices with GPS - have software setup to allow users to have multiple trackers (Trueup) - they imagine that you would eventually buy a sports watch to track those types of activities and maybe wear your vivomove during the day/night for activity tracking. You can use free Apps like Wahoo Fitness to track activities (can even pair HR, power, or cadence sensors)...then you can easily 'share' the activity file via email to yourself... it will send as a .FIT file.. which can easily be imported into Garmin. :-)

    Works well :-)
  • This is a shocking discovery I made after purchasing these for my wife and I. Since 2015 we have used a range of watches from Motorola, Samsung and Fitbit. Whilst they did not have GPS built in, the phone does and every single one has shown a map when you run with your phone. How have we made it to 2020 and Garmin cannot get 6 year old software and tech right? Clearly this is a commercially driven decision to restrict the watch / app.

When we bought the watches we were led to believe they would use "GPS Connect" which uses your phones GPS. The app previews also show a Map in the Play/Apple store without any disclaimers.

Even messaging your support staff, they believe @GPS Connect' should work.

Garmin, This is the kind of stuff that annoys people not builds trust or faith in a brand. It would take minimal effort to resolve.
