Smart Notifications default to on with newly installed apps

I recently noticed that my Smart Notifications are defaulting to on with newly installed apps. That really should be set to off and allow us to enabled them if we want to. I don't want to have to go into Garmin Connect every time I install an application and disable Smart Notifications for that app. Is that something that could be implemented? Thanks.
  • Not quite sure what you mean I thought notifications from the phone were on or off and the apps sending notifications were determined on the phone

    In Garmen Connect, go to the menu, then Settings. Choose Smart Notifications. This will list what apps are allowed to send notifications to your Garmin device. The default when you first open the program is All Applications set to enabled. I turned that off, disabled everything and then only enabled what I wanted (SMS, phone, etc..). When I install a new app, it's automatically set to enabled. It should be disabled and the user should let the app know if it wants them enabled.

    Most apps these days enable everything be default and that's not how it should be.
  • I agree! Setting for Smart Notifications in GCM should default to "false" in case of newly installed apps. The only exception for me is when "All applications" is enabled.

    Just had this happen again yesterday. Changed email apps on my phone. The old app was not allowed to send a smart notification. After installing the new app my watch vibrated a few times and I couldn't figure out why. Went into Garmin Connect and, lo and behold, the new email app had smart notifications enabled.

    Does anyone from Garmin monitor this or where I can let them know? I chatted with support and they were of zero help.

    Six months later and it's still the same...and worse. Today, Garmen Connect updated on my Android phone. Went to look at Smart Notifications and they were all set to On. Unbelievable.
  • Oct 2022 and still the same. Garmin makes great hardware but the software is their Achilles heel.
