Does Garmin Connect Android app support ANT+ sensors?

As in the name of the topic; my main activity is cycling, so I've got a Garmin Edge 500 plus ANT+ HRM and Speed/Cadence sensors. I've just started running, so want to use the HRM with my phone doing the tracking. I can't see anything that says Garmin Connect on Android supports any ANT+ sensors though, so I've had to use Strava, which does support ANT+. Am I missing something?

Cheers
John
  • Yes, you have missed something. The Garmin Connect app on your phone is for sync/analysis/changing settings, not for recording - unlike the Strava app. For recording you need a Garmin device.
  • Ah, I see. I misinterpreted the comment on the Play Store page:

"Once paired with a compatible(1) Garmin device, activity tracking is just the beginning of what Garmin ConnectTm can do for you. You can create new workouts, build courses and even challenge your friends to compete, all within the app."

I assumed "device" included "sensor", but presumably it means if you've got a watch or something it will show the information being monitored by the watch.

Thanks for that (it did seem a bit weird for Garmin to be giving away an app that would be competing with their tracking devices!).

Curiously enough, once upon a time Garmin had an app that provided exactly what you expected, including support for ANT+ senors! It was called Garmin Fit. It was a paid app, but very cheap ($1, if I remember correctly). It has been removed a couple of years ago, probably for the exact reason you mentioned.
