Thanks very much for this trick. I can't BELIEVE Garmin thinks people always have a computer on hand to sync data around. Come on it's 2019 and most people, especially on long bike tours, travel without a computer. This trick certainly works with my Edge 530 and it's great, but COME ON - how can this not be simple and straight forward in the mobile apps? It took me 30 minutes to find this post. So lame of them.
Yes, that worked till last app update (30 march 2022). But nowadays it doesn't work any more. When I chose "open with connect" the Connect Mobile opens plain course builder window.
Any suggestions? I think it could be a bug in app or even worse deliberate action of Garmin...?

It still works for me on version 4.53. Perhaps a problem with the file, on your side?
1.) This can happen if the Connect app has no internet connection while importing the GPX route file. Usually a red No-Internet error bar will appear at the bottom of the app's route import dialog, but sometimes the course creation dialog will open as well. This is a sporadic error and should not occur if the internet connection is stable.
2.) And sometimes the Connect app cannot parse the GPX files properly due to some faulty* created/formated GPX files, then the course builder dialog also could appear.
A similar issue has occurred with some older Connect App versions (forums.garmin.com/.../gpx-import-via-android-connect-app) a year ago, but Garmin seems to have fixed this and the current version 4.53 does not have any problems on my phone, provided there is an internet connection.
*Just a side note: I have developed a free Android app (WRPElevationChart) that can import TCX and FIT files in addition to GPX files and pass them to the Garmin Connect app. Sometimes you can use this app as a kind of workaround to avoid problems with the GPX import, but even in this case the Connect App must have access to the Internet because the route calculation apparently takes place on the Garmin web servers.
I've had this phenomenon twice now. If the animated runner symbol does not appear directly when importing, then the manual route edit mode will be called.
I assume that at that moment the Connect App was unable to connect to the Garmin web server. If so, just try again and it should work. At least that was the case for me.
In any case, it should be related to the Internet connection or the availability of the 'route server', that seems to be needed for some deeper calculations, the app is not able to handle internally.
