Garmin Pay - Can't create wallet as no keyboard appears to enter passcode

Hi

I've just bought a Vivoactive 3 and am keen to set up the Garmin Pay feature.

I understand I first have to use Garmin Connect to create a wallet, then add a card, however when I try to create the wallet from the Garmin Connect app, I am asked to 'secure' the wallet by creating a passcode and 4 boxes appear. Unfortunately no keyboard appears to let me enter a passcode, even when I select a box to type into. I just get a running man appearing below the boxes which I presume means the app is thinking, but it never stops (left it for 30 mins) and the keyboard never appears.

I'm using the app on a Moto G5S, Android version 7.1.1

Any advice on how to get around this problem would be gratefully accepted. I've attached a screenshot of the problem screen.
