Android Pie and Android Messages APP notification

Is it known that there are issues with Android Pie and Android Messages APP notification? Watch will not reliably notify. (Fenix 5 with Pixel 2)

I am having the same issue. I use a Pixel 2xl with Android 9 and sms notifications are sporadic. Doesn't matter what sms app I use. I have also tried reinstalling Connect app as well as repairing my pho e a few times.
  • I am on a PIxel 2. I have tried everything as well, including factory reseting phone and watch.

I can't say for sure but this may be due to battery optimization. I noticed that my watch doesn't actually stay connected all of the time and my assumption is that it is due to battery optimization limiting the Connect app. You can try turning it off for Connect by going to Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> Special app access -> Battery optimization.. then list all apps.. select Connect and disable optimization.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had already tried turning Batt Op off. Doesn't fix it .
  • There is definitely something up since upgrading my Pixel 2 XL to Android 9.0 Pie. My Fenix 3 HR only receives notifications for text messages sporadically. I called Garmin CS and they are unaware of any issues. My wife's Fenix 5S is doing the same thing so it has to be isolated to the connect app/new phone OS. Hopefully someone from Garmin will see this thread and realize there is a bug in the latest Android Release.

I think I might have solved the issue for me. I am using a Pixel 2xl on Android 9.0 and had been having tons of issues with not getting notifications on my Garmin Forerunner 935. I had tried to reset my Garmin. I tried different messaging apps and nothing worked .

Yesterday I factory reset my phone as well as my Garmin. When I restored my Google backup I also did not setup web messaging in the Google messages app. Since doing this I have had no issues. I have only been using for about 24 hours but it seems to be working great. I am not sure if turning off the web messaging had anything to do with it but I never used it anyways.

Same problem here with Pixel 2, Pie and Garmin 935. Using Connect 4.11.

Since Google Fi uses data/Hangouts for messaging, I also tried using traditional SMS/messages but notifications still don't work.

Hi, I had the same problem with my Oneplus 6.

The theme is that Android Pie brings different improvements to optimize the operation of the battery, these improvements minimize the operation of the App in the background.

    I have worked the following:

    1.- Forget the Garmin SMARTWACTH
2.- Go to Settings OnePlus 6, specifically to applications and notifications,.... go give all permissions to the app Garmin Conect, Inluso you have to allow this app to make changes to the system.
3.- In Garmin Conect, re-link the smartwatch.

After this it works without problem.

Greetings, I hope I have helped you all.

    Pablo.-
