Notifications- Access required

I think I have the answer to this, and if I am right then Garmin support should hang their heads in shame for failing to help the many people who have this simple issue. If I am right, this is what is going on:

What the message on the watch is trying to tell you is that there is an app on your phone that is trying to get access to the Garmin Connect app on your phone to send a notification to your watch. That app does not have permission on your phone to do that, and you can not give it permission on you watch to do so, the only thing you can do from your watch is to block it. So your watch tells you that there is an app that is trying to get access and gives you the only two options it can: to block or not. 

If you want to block the notifications from the app, just select block. If you want to get them, dismiss the message on the watch and go to your phone. On the phone go to settings, permissions, Garmin  Connect and ensure that all the permissions are on - the root of the problem is that during set of Garmin Connect the permissions for Calendar are not granted (I did notice there was a message about needing to set a permission during installation, but there was no obvious link to let you do it).

The other thing you can do if you don’t want to grant permission to any apps to use Garmin Connect to send notifications is, on your phone, go to settings, notifications, Garmin Connect and disable the notifications for Access Required.

You can also access these settings by clicking on Connect in the apps section of your settings.

I hope this helps, it seems to have solved the problem on my wife’s watch and it makes sense once you understand what is going on.

Huawei's have quite an aggressive battery saving process. They close apps down that it thinks aren't being used to save battery life. Connect needs background access so that it can monitor for notifications. 

So to fix it you just need to go to 'App Launch' in the settings and turn off 'Manage automatically' against the Garmin Connect app (so that it says 'Manage Manually'. 

It will then continue to run in the background and you shouldn't get the issue. 

I guess Xiaomi's have something similar, all androids do it to a degree but each manufacturer seems to deal with it differently. 

I use huawei smartphone... notifications tend to stop and wont be restored even after restarting the phone. Any assistance?

Did you try changing the app to be manuallyanaged in the battery settings like I mentioned in my post?

I have a brand new fenix 6 pro and have this on mi9se. Most days I lose smart notifications. I found a fix which is to clear data for the connect app, then when you open it sorts out permissions. Thankfully you don't get logged out of connect. However if you customised which apps you want notifications from you lose those settings. I find it's more likely to mess up if I turn my phone off over night but that could be a coincidence as leaving it on doesn't guarantee it works.  It just stops working at some point every 24 hours. Also I don't always get the message "Android notifications have stopped unexpectedly", I got that today which was how I found this post. Have been on Garmin support chat several times and they gave up. Told me to email support but no reply in 3 days. I guess it's something in Chinese brand phones although I have of course disable Xiaomi battery saver for the connect app. Would love a solution.... The wife doesn't like it when I miss a text message! And this rather basic function was about all that did work on my fossil wear watch.
