I lose connection to vivoactive 3 when closing Connect app

Hi,
I bought the vivoactive 3 today and set it up with my Huawei P20. Everything was smooth untill i closed the Connect app on my phone. I then lost connection to the watch. Now the watch only syncs when i have the app open. I have no use for the watch if its not connected all the time without having the app open as i wont recieve notifications or anything.

Is there a fix to this or do i have to return the watch and buy a different brand?
  • My Vivoactive 3 keeps on disconnecting from my Nexus 5X (I don't think it has anything to do with closing the app; e.g., the most recent situation was that the phone was connected when I went to bed but it was not connected in the morning). The following works (it's more-or-less what Garmin support told me):

    1. Settings -> Storage -> Other Apps -> Connect
    - Clear Cache, Clear Data (enter "OK" to the warning -- the data isn't lost after all)

    2. Restart the phone

    3. Start Connect, log in (userid, password; Android seems to remember these)

    4. Touch the device icon, and the watch connects.

    It's not reasonable that I have to do this every few days, so I hope that there's a better solution (or maybe I should just return the watch and get a FitBit?)
  • My Vivoactive3 stays connected the whole day, but the Edge1030 will not connect until I open GCM.
    How can this be?
