Livetrack always defaults to statute units of measurement

I've been testing Livetrack by sending the invites to myself. Every time I receive one on my phone and open the map, I find that average speed, distance, and elevation are shown in mph, miles, and feet. I tap on the Settings gear icon and change the units to metric, and that works fine for the remainder of that Livetrack session. However, the next day when I receive another invite and open the map again (on the same device), the units have reverted back to statute. How can I stop it defaulting back to statute units each time? And if Livetrack is too stupid to allow the default to be changed, why is the default set to these mickey-mouse units that are only used by a small fraction of the world's population?
  • Check that you are logged in when you view your Livetracking if that's possible. I see this when looking at a course from a link. The default view is with me logged out and in statute miles. As soon as I log-in, the units revert to those I have set.

Yep, not many countries are non-metric - https://www.zmescience.com/other/map...metric-system/. Bust sadly, Garmin being an American based company thinks only of itself :-)

What should I login to? When I receive an invitation via email on my phone, I have an email with a "Watch live activity" button that I tap on, and that opens the map inside the mail client. This happens both if I use the Google's default gmail client or the Android mail client I normally use, Aquamail Pro. I have Connect Mobile on the phone, and I'm logged into that, and inside that I have my default units set to metric, but that's obviously not influencing the livetrack default display units.

Why the hell can't livetrack.garmin.com just set a browser cookie indicating the preferred units on the machine where the Livetrack is being viewed. If I use the dropdown at bottom right in the Livetrack browser window to select metric units, then the most reasonable assumption is that the next time I view a Livetrack, I'll want to use metric units again. But no, I have to go and re-select metric units on every occasion that I view a Livetrack. Still, I shouldn't be surprised - it's of a piece with the generally abysmal quality of Garmin's software offerings.
