Training Effect chart wrong for triathlon

On May 20 I recorded a triathlon (multisport) activity on my Forerunner 935. It calculated the Training Effect as Anaerobic 2.4 Aerobic 5.0. But the Training Effect chart in the Android app shows approximately only Anaerobic 0.0 Aerobic 3.5.

Why is the a discrepancy between the calculated numbers and the charts? Is this a defect? ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1351657.jpg
  • There has been an issue with TE calculated from manually downloaded data from an HRM-TRI or HRM-Swim. (I'm not sure if you did this?) In a triathlon, manual downloading should be unnecessary, as the swim leg data will have downloaded automatically during T1 and the bike leg.

Another possibility is the HR Zones were different between the watch and GC - recording a TE of 5 in an activity (triathlon) where you are trying to keep to a sustainable effort level throughout suggests your zones may have been too low. Especially the case if you have HRMax autodetect on, your zones could have been updated when GC recalculated TE.

It seems like the graph is showing the values calculated for the first activity recorded on May 20 (Anaerobic 0.0 | Aerobic 3.4).
Honestly I don't know which values GC is supposed to show if you record more activities on the same date...
  • It is supposed to show the highest recorded of either metric for that day
  • I was using a HRM-Tri strap. My Forerunner 935 automatically downloaded the heart rate data at the end of the activity. The calculated TE seems reasonable. It just doesn't show up on the chart. Seems like a defect in the app.
