Help configuring notifications

I recently switched from an iphone to a pixel2 and am slowly getting used to android. However, I am super reliant on garmin notifications to my watch and I can't get them working right on the android. Hoping some folks can chime in on potential solutions. These are the issues I'm seeing:
1) Can't turn off email notifications which means my wrist is constantly vibrating and I miss actual important notifications. Is there any way to configure email notifications such that they still show up on my lock screen but don't get sent to android?
2) Google maps is not sending notifications which is a huge issue when driving. Is there any way to make that work?
3) General issue: there is a slight delay from when something happens on the phone to when connect alerts me on my watch. This was pretty much instantaneous on iphone but on android is slow enough that I've missed calls as my watch doesn't vibrate until the second or third ring.

Thanks in advance! Really hoping I can get things configured satisfactorily.
  • sylviusd,
    • Did you mean you want the email notifications to appear in the Notification Centre of your Android device (Pixel2), but not on your (non-Android) Garmin watch? If so, yes, you can – by disabling notifications from the email app in question, inside the Garmin Connect Mobile app for Android, on the page of toggle switches that you get to by the sequence:
      (hamburger menu)->Settings->Smart Notifications
    • I don't know. The way Google Maps generate turn-by-turn navigational instructions as notifications in Android may be a more sophisticated use of notifications than the Garmin device knows how to handle; these aren't the stock standard, no-particular-smarts-involved static notifications.

    Just curious do your text (i.e. SMS) notifications work? They only partially work on my device. I'm notified a text message has arrive, but I cannot see a preview of the text message on my vivoactive3 watch from my Android phone.
  • Thanks for the replies. I can’t believe I couldn’t find the app selections in the preferences. I was looking for it in the watch settings but there you can just turn them on or off entirely. Never thought to look in app settings. So happy to turn off mail notifications.

    Sadly and inexplicably maps is not a choice for notifications, which is a huge bummer. In fact, even on the phone maps notifications are a big disappointment as they tell me there’s a turn coming up but not which way to turn. On iOS I could just glance at my watch and see which way to turn.

    My sms notifications are working on the watch. I can read the message and dismiss. I am using hangouts for sms.

    That group of settings is available in the Garmin Connect Mobile app for Android but not in the app for iOS, anyway.

    Sadly and inexplicably maps is not a choice for notifications,
    I cannot check whether it is or isn't in Garmin Connect Mobile app v4.11 for Android right now, but I can see there is a toggle for it in v3.* of the app. However, then notifications that get sent to my Forerunner was devoid of useful content anyway.
