Garmin Connect Mobile 4.5

Hi all,

We all know that since 4.2 release, Garmin Connect got many issues ...

I've just seen that Garmin pushed a new release 4.5.

Does anyone know if this release is a good one with no issue ?

I mean does it solve :
- Synchro issue
- Battery drain
- Notifiations issues

Thanks to all in advance for your informations ;)
  • I'm not experiencing any issues but I didn't have any before so take it for what it's worth. My Notes 8 and VivoActive HR never had problem syncing, didn't notice a battery drain because of the app (OS never closed the app either like it did for other apps) and notification was never a problem.

What I did notice though is the addition of lots more badges and those badges earns you points that allows you to 'level up'. You can compare your badges/points/level with other contacts.
  • Again and again, I have problems with the notifications. Last good working version of GCM was 4.1.11. Today I updated to GCM4.5. Notification only calls, nothing more. Even I receive SMS or email (to gmail app) I have it in the widget of F5X, but NO NOTIFICATION (like alarm or vibrate). I checkit in F5x even in GCM, everywhere is setup as alarm and vibr ALL during and not during activity.
So I again downgrade GCM 4.5 to GCM 4.1.11.
    That´s a very pity. :-(
  • Garmin have prommised me to send me an e-mail when those sync/notification/battery drain issues are resolved and I still have not recieved any e-mails for them
after the last 3 releases so I guess that this problem is not worked on. I won't spend time on acting as their beta tester so I will stay with old 4.1.9 version until they notify me that the problem is solved,

Don´t wait. Garmin will not send you anything. Everytime I send them the problems of notification, they send me "we have never heard about this", something like followng advice (restart both, update both, ... and can I do more for you? :-))))) ) Again and again the same. Even when I wrote them detailed info about problems (restarts, updates, what it does, they asked me the same things again without really any help ...), everytime they answered me by such a stupid way.
  • See my post, it is broken, mucked up my Fenix 5 status in regards to whether connected or not. Reverted back to 4.4.2 and problem was gone, 4.5 is defective.

Well. I 'm waitng. I will not waist time on testing things over and over again that is probably broken. It seems like garmin dont care. They just want to promote new fancy things. They never test their stuff, and trying a new version will probably just break somethig new.... If you talk to support they ask you to test. IF you ask them if they have a changelog or know what have been fixed, then they say "no idea".. So I guess that just want us to be beta testers, and I don't like to be a beta tester for garmin...
  • How do I revert back to the old version? My Fenix 5s keeps losing the Bluetooth connection. For the money it cost it's complete and utter crap!!

I've got the idea ... they only try to develop new things from dreaming persons...they don't care about current users and there problems (I know programming can be tough...but be backwards compatible!) Don't change things which were working wel ...(ex. Default MusicPlayer)

I'm happy with my VivoActive HR, I'm happy with my Car Navigation ... but before I buy a new watch .. or update Garmin Connect for Android .. I don't know ...
  • No I don't think garmin are that bothered about their customers, I've got an edge 800 and was going to treat myself to the 1030 but reading through all the problems people are having with them I won't waste my money. I got the edge 25 before Christmas and no text notifications come through on that like their supposed to. My garmin sat nav works for about 90 minutes then the screen goes fuzzy and it turns off. My fenix5s watch was a Christmas present off the Mrs, I pleaded with her not to buy it. I'll not spend another pound on a garmin product as they're just sub standard.
  • Do not worry guys, just a few years, and we will get a broad spectrum of smart fitness watches running open source OS. Garmin will be just as Nokia, a strange brand from the past, which did not understand the future...
