Android app impact on battery life

Sorry if this has been asked before -- has anybody else noticed that the Garmin Connect Android app has an adverse effect on phone battery life? Since I installed it, my phone battery life has reduced by about 50%. Of course, I can't be sure that the Garmin app is responsible -- it could be a dodgy phone firmware update or some other rogue app.
  • The app uses very little battery for me. Even on my old Priv wasn't bothered. Likely some other problem unfortunately.

Very little drain here as well. Dies not seem to make an impact. Huawei Mate 9 Pro. Android 7.0.
  • I've been experience heavy battery drain for the last several weeks, perhaps as long as a month. There isn't an obvious culprit from the Android settings.

In the past, people have reported here that some revisions of the Garmin Connect app have kept a "wake lock" for long periods, which prevents the phone from going into full low-power mode. I don't know how to look for that.

For the record, I have a Garmin VivoActive 3 connected to a Samsung S7. The Samsung is running the latest Android distributed by Verizon in the USA, including the January 2018 update. It indicates that it's Android 7.0.
