4.3 Can't calculate Intensity Minutes for Workouts anymore.

Ever since I updated to 4.3, Intensity Minutes are no longer calculated for Workouts.

I contacted Michael @ Garmin support and he suggested that I set my Activity Class in User Settings in the app from 0 to 5 (I have never changed this setting from the default value of 0 until now). I just had another workout, and again, no Intensity Minutes were calculated. Previously to 4.3, Intensity Minutes were being calculated and accumulated during each workout. I am still getting some passive Intensity Minutes for non-workout actions randomly during the day.

My device is a VivoActive 3 with the lasted software/firmware/updates and it had been working fine until Connect 4.3.

I noticed some others in device forums also having the same issue.
  • Intensity miniutes seems quite random,
    I might accumulate them by just walking around my kitchen, I will set intensity minutes goal to 1400 a week.....
    When working I only gain them by vigorous exersize, so set the goal much lower......
    Sometimes they wont register at all.

    This is completely random and happens all the time.

  • No, this is deterministic. They worked fine for me on the same firmware until 4.3 on Feb 9th. Now, they do not register at all for workouts. There is some bug here. I wish I could roll back to the previous version to prove it.
  • I'm sending ( under their instruction)the Garmin technical deparment a weeks worth of screenshots, info relating to heartrate vs intensity minutes to help them and myself.
    I would suggest phoning them if you have no luck reverting.
  • Thank you to the person who shared this thread in my post regarding intensity minutes not working. I tried a variety of things over the past few weeks and called support multiple times. I just sent my vivosport to them as they kindly replaced my device b/c of the issues that have consistently been occuring.

    Stopped working for me this Monday (26th of Feb), do not recall any sw updates but can be wrong. Using Vivosport. Had a heavy workout on Tuesday but nothing shown in intensity, although HR was recorded just fine. Connect version today is 4.3.

    EDIT: 15 minutes after posting this I do have a record on Tuesday in intensity. Not sure if this had any effect but after posting I actually changed my activity class from 5 to 6 and back to 5.

    Something strange is happening as now Tuesday records are blank again on intensity. See my above post.

    Did a new workout today and that shows up.
  • I have an interesting update:

    Last night I connected my VivoActive 3 to the Windows Desktop app and sync'ed the device. It found no new firmware updates, etc (I had done them a long time ago, before this issue started).

    After I disconnected my device, a few moments later it showed a gear icon with a down arrow, like there was some software/configuration change happening. It rebooted my device. Then the same procedure happened again (gear/down arrow, then reboot). Nothing had changed as far as SW/FW on the device (I checked before and after).

    This morning I did a 30 min bike ride and voila! Intensity minutes have been tracked for the first time since Feb 8th!

    Did Garmin silently push some fix for this issue?

    I'll see what happens with my other workouts this week and report back.
