Smart Notifications: Google Maps App

Hi,

I've bought my vivoactive 3 two weeks ago and I am as happy as can be with this thing. Having been a Pebble and Fitbit user for years before, I have finally found a device that offers best of both worlds. Great work, Garmin! :)
Everything worked flawlessly with my Huawei Mate10 lite, but since the last update of GC, (Google) Maps no longer is shown in the list of apps under Settings >> Smart Notifications. Thus, I'm not getting any notifications for that app on my vivoactive 3 any longer. Other notifications work just fine.
I've already tried clearing GC's cache and restarting my phone, without success.

Does anybody else experience this?

Regards,
Stefan
  • Haha, what a typical garmin workaround ;)
Indeed, Maps is gone from GC Smart Notification setup.

Myself and others were higly annoyed by hundreds of Maps Notifications, since GC4.2.0. This version enabled all apps to push notifications.
Maps changes the Notification every 100 meter (from 3km ahead) which results in a static vibrating watch.

Root of all evil is enabling all apps by upgrading to GC 4.2.0. Also 4.2.1 ignores previous setups. Finally 4.2.2 also ignores you personal setup but enables just a bunch of known (to garmin) apps.
Maybe that is the way how to ged rid of this contant vibrations and notifications from Maps. Quite harsh way how to do it, but effective :D

Does anyone know if Garmin is working on a fix for this? I would love to use Google Maps Navigation while walking and have the turns show up on my watch.
  • I guess there is no fix.
Garmin shows each Notification from the notification center and also each update. Due to Maps updates so often, Garmin cannot do much about that.
  • But how do you know, that the update is only the 100 meter change and not the next navigation command (you want to get)?

And it would break all the messenger-, soccer score-, radar control-, ect. Apps, where the notification update is essential.

It would be nice, but I don´t expect to see a working solution for that. Since I´m using Android Auto, I don´t need to see the navigation on my wrist :D
