Livetrack Autostart has ceased to work

[apologies for cross posting this, i put it in the wrong 'Connect' forum the first time]

I dont know what has changed but about a month ago(ish) auto start for livetrack stopped working, I have an Edge 820 use that feature everyday (so my Mrs knows when to put my dinner on :D).

Ive tried all the obvious stuff and and still no joy:

1. Uninstalled Connect (twice), wiped app cache etc and restarted, reinstalled.
2. Unpaired, repaired bluetooth
3. Rolled back firmware on device....

None of the above has worked. The Bluetooth connection is fine as the devices still connect and the rides autoupload to strava etc. The Autostart only ever works if the app is open AND it is on the Livetrack page. This isn't practical, the whole point is that the LIvetrack just (auto)starts as soon as you start your activity, thats what is use to do.

The fact that it appears to be dependent on the Connect App to work at the moment has led me to believe that the problems is with the app (or the phone) rather than the Garmin device itself. Ive run out of ideas and would welcome so tips/advice from anyone that has experienced similar issues.

Thanks in advance.
  • LiveTrack not working for me either with latest Garmin Mobile app update V4.5.2.1. and Garmin 220. Still getting Cannot send invites at this time. Try again later. Been down for about a month or more.

Same with me. I have to downgrade for version 4.1.11.
  • Same here, live track not working, no notification about failure or success. That's an important feature for me...
  • I have the edge explore 1000 and am having the samissue that the app needs to be running on my iPhone for live track to auto start. This problem started at the same time that I started to have auto upload problems more often than not I have to do it manually. In the past week there has been another change to live track in that the notification it sends out now posts your email address instread if your name. I have reported this to Garmin social support and product support. Social support did respond saying this is happening because my email address is my Garmin username. I have responded to say that this is not acceptable and never used to be the case. I only share live track via email to family but what would happen if I shared my live track to Facebook and it published my email address?
  • I can report the same issue on Android, specifically with a Google Pixel 2XL on 6.xx. I was on the November security patch when it started and then did a clean install of the full March image of 6.xx without any fix.

The problem started several weeks ago without any change to the phone's OS version, just GCM updates. Don't really know which GCM version it started on but all the updates since haven't helped and I forgot to save my app backups when I wiped my phone to try rolling back to find a working version.

Symptons is the same as everyhone Livetrack emails are hit or miss, mostly miss. Like others it doesn't auto start but if I open the Connect app and just change to the live track settings page it then starts without making any changes or selecting/clicking any buttons.

I did note that the last time it worked automatically last week I'd just had the GCM app open a couple of minutes before the race start. I mention that as it could mean it might be a sleep / wake lock issue with the GCM such that if the phone goes into deep sleep GCM isn't getting the notification from the watch to start the live track. Just a thought.

The work around of opening GCM after a run/race start, navigating to live track is a pain especially for a race for me personally because of where I stash my phone but it does seem to work.

I got the same problem with my Fenix5 on IOS and Android, it's for me one of the most important feature, if it could be work again instead to put new badges ?
  • Same problem on my Edge 520 and the latest version 4.5.1. live track won't auto start unless I go into the application and just open the setting page for live track.
I downgraded to version 4.4.2. which is working fine
  • Hi guys, I had this problem also but I fixed it by entering the settings menu on my android phone-aplications-connect app-clear cache and then permissions, enable all, restart. I paired my fenix3 again and works just fine.

This workaround works on iOS too.
Delete the connect app from the phone
    Reinstall the connect app
    Connect to your watch
    Setup Livetrack
    Have a nice activity.
