Livetrack Autostart has ceased to work

[apologies for cross posting this, i put it in the wrong 'Connect' forum the first time]

I dont know what has changed but about a month ago(ish) auto start for livetrack stopped working, I have an Edge 820 use that feature everyday (so my Mrs knows when to put my dinner on :D).

Ive tried all the obvious stuff and and still no joy:

1. Uninstalled Connect (twice), wiped app cache etc and restarted, reinstalled.
2. Unpaired, repaired bluetooth
3. Rolled back firmware on device....

None of the above has worked. The Bluetooth connection is fine as the devices still connect and the rides autoupload to strava etc. The Autostart only ever works if the app is open AND it is on the Livetrack page. This isn't practical, the whole point is that the LIvetrack just (auto)starts as soon as you start your activity, thats what is use to do.

The fact that it appears to be dependent on the Connect App to work at the moment has led me to believe that the problems is with the app (or the phone) rather than the Garmin device itself. Ive run out of ideas and would welcome so tips/advice from anyone that has experienced similar issues.

Thanks in advance.
  • Here the same. Fenix 5x.

  • Definitely not fixed. Actually, even a manually started livetrack often doesn't work for me. Look at the screenshots. The actual run with screenshot named "running1"; compare it to the livetrack named "livetrack1". This was a livetrack I started manually.

The other two screenshots "running2" and livetrack2" show exactly the same problem with an auto-started livetrack.

Wrote to the German Garmin support some days ago but got no answer...

    It's kind of annoying. ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1326224.jpg
  • In the last week or two Live Track auto-starts somewhere around mile 3 of my run. On my most recent three runs that has coincided with a message on the watch that it has connected with my footpod.

  • I use CM 4.4.2 on Android and an Edge 1000. I start the App before my ride beginns and today (2 rides) the live track started automatically when I started the recording regardless if i were connected to WiFi (this was a problem in the past). And not only the live track started it also send the right tracking information. So for me, with the experience of today, it works.
We will see if this will be also with the next rides or if it was just luck.

This morning live tracking started about 3/4 of a mile into my run. I didn't notice a footpod-connected message, but there might have been one. The expected behavior is that live tracking will start immediately when an activity begins.

This suggests that the app now retries after Live Tracking fails to start, which I appreciate. (Garmin lurkers, please tell the developers thanks!) I can't tell how often it retries, but it acts as if it's failing multiple times before eventually succeeding.

Edit: I should add that in every instance that I checked once the Live Track starts it continues to the end of my run.

This has been bothering me for a few rides now. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled. Two tests have been successful.

Were you experiencing the Live Track never starting, or it starting sometime mid-activity?

  • I experienced delayed-start of Live Tracking again this morning. This time it was right around the 1 mile mark, and again coincided with a footpod-connected message. (I had put fresh batteries in the footpod, eliminating low battery as a factor.) Several people reported correlation with using external sensors such as heart rate straps. I'll un-pair the footpod and leave it home next time and see what happens.
