Livetrack Autostart has ceased to work

[apologies for cross posting this, i put it in the wrong 'Connect' forum the first time]

I dont know what has changed but about a month ago(ish) auto start for livetrack stopped working, I have an Edge 820 use that feature everyday (so my Mrs knows when to put my dinner on :D).

Ive tried all the obvious stuff and and still no joy:

1. Uninstalled Connect (twice), wiped app cache etc and restarted, reinstalled.
2. Unpaired, repaired bluetooth
3. Rolled back firmware on device....

None of the above has worked. The Bluetooth connection is fine as the devices still connect and the rides autoupload to strava etc. The Autostart only ever works if the app is open AND it is on the Livetrack page. This isn't practical, the whole point is that the LIvetrack just (auto)starts as soon as you start your activity, thats what is use to do.

The fact that it appears to be dependent on the Connect App to work at the moment has led me to believe that the problems is with the app (or the phone) rather than the Garmin device itself. Ive run out of ideas and would welcome so tips/advice from anyone that has experienced similar issues.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like the release of GCM 4.3 might have resolved this.

HOWEVER - to get Autostart working, I had to disable Autostart in the app, then re-enable it. Since then it has worked consistently (including without the GCM app needing to be open on the phone).

I was over optimistic. GCM 4.3 has NOT solved the problem. Autostart worked for the first 2 rides after I disabled and re-enabled it in GCM, but has now stopped working again.

The behaviour suggests there is something that is causing autostart to disable, even though it shows as being enabled in GCM.
  • Autostart of the App didn't work, after starting the App the live track started automatic during my activity.
It seems there is an improvement, but not fully.
  • I have reported the Autostart issue to our teams for investigation. Apologies for the delay. I will post back once we have a resolution.

From Garmin support in response to the ticket I logged.....

"The issue you are referring to is something that we are aware of and are working hard towards a resolution, however, we do not have a timeframe for this to be completed"

    Hi Guys

I have the same issue with autostart not working. FR935.
  • Today I had this problem with my Forerunner 935 and GCM (Android 7.0) for the first time (Forerunner in use for two weeks with lots of runs incl. live tracking with autostart). I got the "live track failed" vibrating message on my Forerunner over and over again which was really annoying. I stopped the live track and started it again manually . After a while the "live track failed" message occurred again.

    Hi,

I had the same issue with my Edge 520. Livetrack autostart was working correctly, but one day stop working.
My configuration was the same before and after the problem. Then, I see I had a change, my garmin connect mobile had been updated.
To solve this problem I uninstall garmin connect ver. 4.3 and reinstall it at ver. 4.1.11 and livetrack autostart is working again.

I hope this works for you.

  • It seems that this issue was fixed with a Garmin Connect app update. Due to the bad weather in German spring I didn't had the chance to test it so much. Maybe over the weekend. ;)
  • Not fixed, went out this morning and Live Track failed.... using an Edge 1030 and the latest version of GCM...
