Latest update huge sync issues!!!

The latest Android Garmin Connect update (4.2) rendered my Watch (Forerunner 735XT)/Phone (Xperia X Compact, Android 7.1.1) useless! Continuous sync failures, I was even not able to do settings like Watch face, etc. Neither Smart Notifications worked!!!
Garmin made a huge mistake by releasing this update 5 days ago. I deleted this app, and went back to the previous version one step, 4.1.11 (get the apk from a reliable source!). EVERYTHING works fine again! So if you have such issue: complain to Garmin (I will do!), and revert back to an older Garmin Connect version...
  • I just bought a forerunner 235 this evening. After coming here and finding countless threads about connection issues, I'm thinking it was a mistake. I am on android. I have yet to successfully transfer any data, see a notification popup, install a watch face, or connect to the phone at all. Despite the fact the phone says it is connected with the device and have the bluetooth icon on the watch. I"ve tried app reinstall, phone reset, bluetooth reboot, phone reboot. It always says connected, but nothing seems to want to transfer.

Uninstall GCM, download 4.1.11 apk, and install that one. Everything will work. Do not forget to disable auto update for GCM in play.

    This is still an issue.

Various troubleshooting steps were performed including: hard resetting 735xt, factory reset of phone (LG G5 H850 with 7.0). Wrote to garmin and they sent me the standard BT connectivity FAQ for ametures. They also ignored me when I contacted their US online chat help (Mathew @ ~2200 hours +1 UTC on March 9th).

Advice for Garmin: let some SW development heads roll. Your customers are not happy. And lack of action is not helping.

Thanks for the info and posts guys. 4.1.11 works great on my G5 with 735xt. And thanks also to Garmin forums for letting us vent here and to fix your problems. :)
  • This issue continues! I have a Vivoactive 3 and the latest version of Garmin Express and Garmin Connect. Garmin Express continues with a RED banner "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect" and Garmin Connect (IOS) at least says the system is down for maintenance! This is unacceptable as Garmin is a WORLDWIDE company that surely has means of only being down under EXTREME circumstances. I am seriously toying with moving to Suunto.

Same issue at home. For me it works with the latest version. My Fiancee just received a new Vivoactive 3 (changed from the steel to gold version) and had sync issues. Vi disconnected the previous device last night as well.

I reinstalled her app this morning and there are a lot of undefined problems. It didn't measure her sleep last night, it does not show her heart rate in the my day summary in the app and at first it did not want to sync at all...
Kind of bummed about this. (Phone: Sony xperia xz - App version: 4.90)
  • Maybe their servers are just overloaded when new version is rolled out? I just upgraded, tested and have no issues at all. Must say that as a precaution i rebooted the phone and watch.
  • Work ok here after last updat (4.9.2)
  • Seconding this thread. My Forerunner 620 stopped synchronizing (at least via Bluetooth) some time in the last three weeks (sorry, I was sick).

My Galaxy S9+ alleges that the watch is connected (green dot), I get a cute graphic when I start the synchronization, but the workout does not upload.

USB sync still works, and Garmin Express alleges the device firmware is up to date. Running version 4.9.2.
  • I am on version 4.9.3 since yesterday, still ok.
