Fenix S5 can pair with GCM on Pixel 2 but cannot complete setup

I hope someone can help with a fix for the problem I have with the connection of GCM with my new Fenix S5. Many people on this forum have experienced Bluetooth connection problems, but this seems different. I can pair GCM on my Pixel 2 with my Fenix S5 but it does not complete setup. It hangs on the message "Completing setup of your fenix s5 - Sapphire Edition device". This is extremely frustrating. Does anyone have suggestions how to fix this. I have reset the phone, cleared the BT connections, re-installed GCM, restored the watch to factory settings, all to no avail.

Thanks

Arno
  • Have you tried removing updates for (or uninstalling and reinstalling) Google Play Services? It worked for me. However, I did get sign-in problems with Play Store afterwards, which I was able to solve by updating Google Play Services again. You might need to search for Google Play Services using a browser, as searching the Play Store didn't find it for me.
  • Actually running into the same issues on my Pixel 2. I needed to wipe the phone this morning and now I can't get it to pair at all using the Garmin Connect app. (It was paired fine before on Android 8.1)

I've rebooted both devices, etc etc, and after I enter the PIN to connect the device to my Pixel 2, it said pairing failed. I've tried just about everything but I don't understand why it worked last night and now fails this morning using the same Android OS.
  • Hi!
    Today I have same problem.
I try pair Samsung Galaxy note8 or Samsung A3 2017 and fenix 5s.
From today morning I can't pairing my device. Before that my devices worked wall.
Today, in mobile GC after input pin code i see: "Fenix 5s connected" and next time: "Garmin device disconnected". In all my device last official firmware.
In Garmin Express error: Server Garmin is unavailiable. Try later.
I have no problem with Internet.
And what to do with this?
  • I've tried absolutely everything. Downgraded to another app APK, downgraded Fenix 5S firmware, upgraded firmware, tried on OTHER Android devices running different OS's, and still nothing works. It worked fine last night! I have no idea what is going on but it's so frustrating.
  • FINALLY got it to sync. I dunno if Garmin fixed something in the background, but I did my normal steps and after I entered the BT passcode, I shut off WiFi. Then it connected. Maybe it had nothing to do with it, I dunno. But I'm in!
  • Fixed. In the evening, the device was connected. Now everything is working. But why not mention at the time about the difficulties? Really didn't need to do a hard reset the watch. :(
  • I just bought brand new Fenix 5 and i cannot get it installed completely. It just hangs on 3/3 of the installation and nothing works.
My Forerunner 235 just connects fine.
