Pixel 2 phone doesn't pair with Fenix 3

Hi,

I'm using the latest Garmin Connect App on Android Oreo 8.0.0 with Pixel 2 XL.

When I try to pair the Fenix 3, the app stays in the "Setting up device" phase indefinitely while the Fenix 3 shows "Read to Pair" until timing out.

How to solve this?

Thomas
  • Thomas, I have a similar problem pairing my Pixel 2, android 8.0.0 with my brand new Fenix 5s. It pairs successfully but cannot compete the setup. It just hangs and eventually times out. I am very interested in any solution you may have found.

    Regards

    Thomas/Amo,

I am also having the same problem. I have Android 8.1.0 and Pixel 2. I have a Fenix 3 and was prior to upgrading phone from my nexus 6, I had this paired and working. Moving to Pixel 2, this is not pairing and hanging as mentioned above.

Please provide a solution when possible.
  • I have the same problem with a Nexus 5X (8.1.0) and a Fenix 5 on 7.10
It is just not completing the install.
I also have a Forerunner 235 which connects just fine.

I've been having problems with Garmin Connect running on a Nexus 5X Android 8 Oreo loosing its Bluetooth connection to my Fenix 3. The pairing had been set up successfully initially and worked but then the phone and watch would not connect over the paired connection soon after. I thought I had solved it by resetting the phone to factory settings but it came back within days. I have solved the problem by clearing the system Bluetooth app data.

To clear Bluetooth cache and data, follow these steps:
Open device Settings followed by Applications.
    Show all apps
Wait for the apps to load and then tap the 3 dot menu present at the top right corner. Select “show system apps”.
    Scroll down and tap “Bluetooth”.
    Open it and tap Storage.
Then tap “Clear Data” and “Clear Cache”.

Annoying if you have to do this from time to time but a lot cheaper than buying a new phone and in any case it looks like this is a generic android oreo problem with Bluetooth and not device specific.

For those struggling to initially pair their fenix 3 with an android oreo phone, I have found that pairing initially works but if you delete the pairing and retry it then it fails because you do no get asked to enter the pairing codes in a pop up on the phone. I overcame this with a factory reset.

    Hope this helps
