Garmin Connect App Audio Prompts on Garmin 820

Hi guys

I don't know if this is a problem with my 820 or the connect app on my S8 plus. I'm not getting any sound for the audio prompts. It is all synced, green light, etc. Even syncs up prior to going into the menu. But in audio prompts menu, there is a speaker icon, presumably that is there to test. I click on it and it spins round, no sound.
I've clicked on navigation alerts turned them on and others. No luck.
The phone is not in any power save, nor is it silent - all sounds maxed out. I've already reset the Garmin 820 (and lost my screens!) With again no luck. I have paired and unpaired the devices, go knows how many times. I have deleted the app and reinstalled so many times.
Please any help?
  • Same issue with Huawei P8 Lite

It was fine for the first 10 days of owning the phone. Now I have the same issue as described. If I select the device in the phone's Bluetooth settings screen, nothing happens. The phone seems to think the device is not connected but the device days it IS connected and auto uploads and smart notifications work fine. Audio prompts and incident detection do not work.
  • Garmin Connect app uses Samsung text-to-speech algorithms for audio alerts. The problem is most likely that Samsung new text-to-speech files need.
These options can be found here:
Go to Settings on your SmartphoneGa to My ApparatenGa to Language and InvoerGa to Text To Speech Press the icon-tools for Samsung text-to-speech engine
Possibly you need to change the language or download a language.
  • My text-to-speech engine is Google. Is this compatible with Garmin Connect?
  • Hi Carlo

Just out of interest, I changed over from Google tts to Samsung. I've yet to try it to validate. But it's funny, I was thinking the very same thing. Fingers crossed this will work.
You'd think the PR side of the app development would ensure this is highlighted on the Play store. Additionally, why does Garmin not use Google as a TTs. Very odd.
NickT, does your phone use its own TTs as an alternative to Google.
Very strange, no one has really mentioned this as an issue, so either, people don't use it or they have found a way round it.

    Fingers crossed

    Thanks

I'm having the same issue on a Motorola G4 Play with Google TTS vanilla. It's clearly an internal app issue for the latest version released, as it was working properly in every previous version.
I will hold back on resetting my watch and deleting all the data on the mobile, as this seems to be a general issue for all devices, soon to be resolved (hopefully).
  • Hi Tieteense, have you reported this to Garmin as a support ticket? The app must be using the TTS from the device, given the app is 62mb. But I'm not a Dev and could be wrong.

    Do Garmin monitor these forums?

Sadly, this did not work. It does look like Garmin has e caused a problem with this update.
  • Hi Guys

Does anyone know who to contact to get a support message for this app? I've had some rubbish support in the past for Garmin.

    Hi

Many thanks for this. Just as a point of interest, I have downloaded GC 3.18 APK and the audio prompts work perfectly. Not good, we have to do this, not to mention risky.
