Constant Access Required and Permission Required notifications

Ever since migrating from a Forerunner 920XT to a 935, I have experienced unending notifications from the Garmin Connect mobile app:

Access Required
You have connected a device that supports advanced music controls such as title and artist. Tap to enable advanced music services for this device.

Permission Required
A device is requesting access to your calendar.

I have disabled Smart Notifications and have removed the Music app from my device but these notifications keep coming. Practically as soon as I swipe one away, my phone buzzes and another one takes its place.

Is there any way simply to disable whatever feature continues to generate these notifications? I'm just using my Forerunner for running, not for playing music or receiving notifications from my phone.

Google Pixel running Android 7.1.2.

In general, I really like the app but it's crazy that this problem has existed for so long. I think the app has the permission it was requesting... it looked like it in the UI and I was getting call info on the watch. My phone is a Samsung S9+, fwiw. The notifications started going off several times an hour one day, and it seems like the only fix was to block notifications entirely. So no more notifications for me.
  • I have the same problem. How to solve it?

  • And did you try enabling the permissions?

  • I have problem with "Permission Required. A device is requesting access to your calendar."
I may enable permission for it but I don't want give this permission for garmin connect.
I enable and disable perrmission, select "don't ask again" and ... again I have notification.
I have disabled calendar widget but the notyfication is still harassing me.
I don't want disable all notifications from Garmin Connect but it is propably one way :-(

Paranoid mode - why Garmin needs asscess to users calendar and don't correct this setting from few year?

OK, just tried it with my own Garmin Connect Mobile app - I disabled the Calendar Permissions, browsed all possible screens of Garmin Connect, tried disconnecting and reconnecting the watch, syncing, stopping and relaunching the app, but did not get any notification about missing Calendar permissions at all. So if you are getting it, you are probably trying to use a function that cannot work properly without the access to the calendar (like for example scheduling your workouts). In that case, if you really do not want to give Garmin the permissions to access the calendar, simply avoid using the function requiring the access to it.

Same problem but seemed to start when I started using Spotify. Stopped natifications by going to Apps/Spotify and Apps/Connect and turned off all notifications, not ideal but a great relief.

Garmin can't sell your data if they can't collect it. They already have your money for the hardware. You have to be considerate of their need to continue profiting off of the information they collect about. Just let them have access to your calendar.

    It won't hurt. I promise.

Sure they need your calendar to sell it. Easy solution - create a fake account and fill your calendar with BS events. Or better yet, avoid using modern technologies. You can run, bike, swim, and hike without any smart watch or phone, and keep so you mind free of paranoid thoughts.

BTW, as I wrote above, I disabled the app the access to my calendar, and as long as I do not use any scheduler, training plans, or other functions requiring the calendar, I do not get any notifications about the missing permissions, so really do not understand all the rage around it.

All calender functions are off and the connect app is blocked from the calendar. The message isn't coming from android.  That isn't the problem. The problem is that Garmin Connect keeps complaining about it.

Pretty much every other mainstream app on the planet takes no for an answer when permissions are denied. The functionality that needs those permissions are simply disabled. I've never encountered an app before that just incessantly nags you until you relent. Even when you don't have the app open.

I've cruised through all of the settings and disabled everything regarding scheduling. It still nags me. Again and again and again. Every 15 minutes or so.

People have been complaining about this for years now. Its deliberate. If Garmin wanted to fix it they would.

Or you can fix it for yourself. Since you do not stop complaining, yesterday I've disabled the Calendar permissions on my phone for the GCM app. When after an hour or so, the GCM app accessed some of the Calendar functions requiring the access to the system Calendar, and it triggered the notification, I pulled down Android's status bar, swiped to the right the GC notification about the missing permission, tapped the cogwheel symbol, went to the notification settings for GCM, and disabled the System and Access Required options. You can get to the same screen also over Android Settings » Apps » Connect » Notifications, and the two options are at the very bottom of the list (at least on my version of Android).

Since that time I did not get any single notification about missing permission, while the calendar access is still banned, and all other notifications to GCM work just fine.
