Bluetooth initial pairing just stuck doing nothing instead of pin prompt

Hi, Fenix 5, Samsung SM-J106H running 6.0.1

It's not an officially listed phone, but it has appropriate support I believe, in any case the failure route is odd, so I was wondering if it suggested something.

When attempting to pair the 5 to the phone, the phone finds the device (with the UX changing appropriate), but never prompts for a pin, like it does when I tried it on a different phone, and it just sits there waiting with the white progress bar not moving with the only option being cancel.

Does this suggest anything on how to progress, or should I just assume the phone is not compatible, the phone it works on is also not listed as supported but does work (Android 5 not 6 though)
  • Are you pairing with the Connect app first? It's not supposed to be necessary any longer but I have always found that's the most reliable way.

    Yep, connect app pairing.

Phone pairing also doesn't throw up the pin prompt either displaying the pin on the phone or asking for it on the phone, it times out there, the fenix is seen okay.

Same problemen here with FR235 and Moto G5 plus. They connect but no pin.....
  • Could it be something in Android security settings? Is it possible that Mobile Connect doesn't have the permissions it needs?

Could be possible. Tried it on an iphone 5s and it worked like a charm. I will give it a closer look

I've relaxed security as much as is obvious, and granted connect all ther permissions regardless of what it asked for, still the same behaviour, so if it is security, it's not something obvious.

Switched on BT Snoop logging, and the packets show up the fenix 5 talking to the android, similarly to the other android, but not completing.

Any way to get more debugging out of garmin connect?

So sending the logcat from the option there, sends me a log, there seems to be very little in it, mostly about the underlying webview and a few system messages about active/inactive - can't see anything at all related to BT or pairing at all.
