I am able to get the devices to pair via Bluetooth, but cannot get GCM to connect to the Edge 1000. Here's what I've done:
- Launched GCM, logged in to my account
- Turned on Bluetooth on the Edge 1000 -> Pair Smartphone
- On my phone , went in to GCM -> Menu -> Garmin Devices -> Edge 1000 -> Add this Device -> View Bluetooth Settings -> Selected BT_Edge 1000 -> Checked box for "Allow BT_Edge 1000 to access contacts..." -> Pair
- Clicked the back arrow on my phone to return to GCM, selected "Done"
The Edge 1000 sits at the Bluetooth screen saying "Waiting for phone to connect". If I click the back arrow on the Edge screen, it shows my smartphone "Scott's Droid". The phone shows "Edge 1000" in the paired devices. Yet, the app on the phone does not connect to the Edge 1000. If I click on the "Scott's Droid" on the Edge 1000, it shows "Status: Disconnected".
What I've done to try to fix it:
- Turned off Bluetooth on both devices, restarted both devices, re-enabled Bluetooth. They paired, but no communication between phone app and Edge.
- Told each device to "Forget" the other, went through the initial setup process again. Same result.
- Enabled "Device Connection Aid" in GCM. Made no difference.
- Did a factory reset on the Edge, went through the initial setup process again. Same result.
- Uninstalled GCM from my phone, factory reset the Edge, started from scratch. Same result.
- Installed GCM on my wife's Samsung Edge running Android 7.0, paired it to the Edge, and voila! They connected instantly.
This leads me to believe that there's something about the Bluetooth on my phone that is the root of this problem. Has anyone successfully connected a Motorola Z Force Droid to an Edge 1000, and if so, PLEASE share your wizardry with me!
*** UPDATE ***
I took the additional steps of changing the location settings on my phone to "High accuracy" and removing the Strava app from my phone. Neither of these had any effect on the problem.
