Steps in Connect Walk activity

Good day, I can't find where in Connect can I find how many steps I did in a walk activity. The only place I can find the steps I did is in the daily steps counter in summary. Am I missing something obvious here?

Thanks

PS, sorry if the terms I used are not the exact terms in the apps. My Connect apps is in French and I translated the terms to the best I could.

  • Good news, good news, and bad news.

Depending on the device you use, you can modify its display to show steps during an activity. Just display the activity screen and go into settings/data screens to show the field.

In web Connect's list of activities full page, you can display the steps for your activities by hovering over the column titles, click the arrow and select the teps field. You can also drag the field to anywhere on the display. There was also a recent thread about how to show the steps in GCM. I don't do that but it's supposed to be easy.

The bad news is that the steps that appear in the report are based on a calculation of distance divided by stride length so, if your stride length is inaccurate, your steps statistic will also be off. The steps on the display of your device matches actual steps.
  • Thanks for the "good news" and as for the bad news, that's stupid. My strides will differ by the speed I'm going so yes, it will be INACCURATE! Why did Garmin choose to go that route???
  • Yes, it can be inaccurate. There have been times when I did an activity first thing in the morning and the steps it showed for the activity were more than my grand total for the day at that point. The best is to use the steps from the display - assuming your device can do that.
  • Activity screen

Steps also do not appear on the activity summary screen. That's a major oversight by Garmin and I'd request that feature added ASAP. Walk activity summary shows pace, temperature, HR and all kinds of other information but does not have the number of steps taken! I mean, I get the number of strokes for paddling but not steps for walking.

    Please add it!
  • Do you know you can add the column with steps and other info to the list of activities.
  • As Phil said, a column for steps can easily be added to the display showing your activities. Here's an example. (Note, "running" activities don't show steps)

I find this really strange i have switched from fitbit to garmin and the steps is missing on Garmin - really, Considering going back to fitbit

  • There are several apps/data fields that can fix that.

  • Ditto, really disappointed so far, half of my walks are missing???

If walks are missing, then either the watch is broken and you should change it, or you do not use it correctly - if you are not willing to read the manual (yes, nobody wants), look up your model on Youtube - there are plenty of videos explaining comprehensibly how to use the device.
