annoying "Connect" notification after each training

Hi there,
after every training my phone shows a notification icon saying "Connect". And that my activity "can now be displayed" (mine is in German).
See the screenshots attached.
I have disabled all notifications I found, but this wont go away.

Any clue?
Thx,
reach
  • Any clue?
Any clue as what in particular?

That was a new Garmin Connect Mobile app feature introduced in version 3.11, if I recall correctly.

I have disabled all notifications I found, but this wont go away.
I have no clue why you fail to suppress the notifications.

Not that I particularly wanted to, but in the name of experimentation, just now I:
    • blocked all notifications from Garmin Connect Mobile (version 3.11.1) on my phone (running Android 5.1.1);
    • started, then stopped and saved a dummy Other activity on my connected Forerunner‑235, which was connected to my phone; and
    • waited for the “Transfer Complete” toast notification to appear on my FR235 shortly after,

and I didn't get a notification on my phone from the Garmin Connect Mobile app.

I then unblocked the notifications in the Android settings, completed another dummy Other activity on my FR235 and let it sync, and I got a “Your activity is ready to view.” notification on my phone. So the toggle for blocking all notifications from the GCM app is definitely working.

(Upon additional experimentation, I'll also note that if I have the GCM app running in the foreground when the syncing completes, I don't get a “Your activity is ready to view.” notification on my phone.)

Which version of Android operating system and the GCM app are you running?
  • I should have said: I found no way to block it inside the app. On OS level I haven't tried, because I generally do want notifications from the app, like I've reached a certain goal, broke a record or so.

    I'm using a Galaxy S7 with Android 6.0.1

Regarding the other thread: I didn't see this original thread any more. Right after I created it it kind of disappeared. I even used the search function and didn't find it. I suspected it needs moderation since it contains pictures. When I still didn't see it after one day, I created another one. Will try to delete it, if possible.

Because such granular control has not been provided to the user in the design of the app.

I'm still not sure what you meant by, “Any clue?” We can tell you the “clue” as to the origin of the phenomenon, we can tell you the “clue” or work-around on how to suppress it (in the OS settings). We, as fellow forum users, aren't going to read your mind as to exactly what you want, and we can't change the design of the app.

If you want to make a suggestion to Garmin about the granularity of control that you as an individual user would like to see, try here: http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/
  • Sir, I'm not a native speaker, but I think, even in no perfekt English "I have THIS problem, I have tried THIS to solve it, I wasn't successful. Any clue? " should tell the average intelligent reader that I'm searching for a solution of my initial problem.

You suggested a solution and you made clear that what I'm looking for isn't possible, so obviously you understood my question. So what's your problem? If you want to point out that "any clue?" isn't a complete sentence, you've made your point.
  • There are 2 places in the Garmin Connect Mobile V 3.12 settings where you can change preferences for notifications from the GCM app itself, just in case you missed one: Settings -> Notifications, and Settings -> Smart Notifications (GCM is somewhere at the bottom of the list).
I don't upload activities myself so I am not 100% sure if it works for the upload-complete-messages, but I never get any notifications from the app at all when these settings are switched off.

Edit: Apology, it doesn't work. The settings I change in Settings -> Notifications do not "stick". This has also been reported in this thread.

    Neither am I.

I had to cover multiple bases, because I wasn't sure what you meant specifically by that question. Telling us that a phenomenon is subjectively “annoying” to you, or what you have tried doing, is not a question.

It'd be better if you'd written, “I want to suppress that particular type of notification while still receiving types X, Y and Z from the app. Is that possible?” so that someone could simply tell you “No, you cannot do that,” with surgical precision (and without giving any unnecessary explanations, if all you wanted to know is yay or nay but not the philosophical or technical why).
