Active calories gone wonky

Until recently my total calories burned were around 3,300 with a max of 3,600, unless I had a slug day.

A good day is 20,000 steps, 40 flights of stairs and at least one activity.

One day last week my calories burned was over 5K, which seems unlikely. Yesterday was about 4,200 with only 10K steps, but two activities of about 2.5 hours total.

The calories have been consistently higher for about two weeks, so I don't know if there has been a change in the calculation or if it's based on my activity level changing some setting? I am not wasting away BTW. I was losing weight at 3K calories consumed, so I bumped it to 4K and probably gained a couple of pounds. The app currently says I'm about 1K calories short on a given day, give or take. I'm not that strict about maintaining consistent calories, although I will try to cut back on a slug day.

Age: Ancient
Weight 200
Height 6'2"

Actvities:
Sun Tues Thur Sat: 40 m elliptical
Mon Wed Fri Sat: 90 m weights

+ about 15K steps on most work days

Wild Bill- what device do yo have?

I have vivoactiveHR and similar problem where I was eating ~1100 cal a day less than the device/app said I burned and put on 5 pounds. (If I'd eaten what the app said it would have been more like 35 pounds.

Please collate your data- post on the forum but more importantly open a case with Garmin support and use your data as backup. We need to explain to them that they dont get it.

Yes, I have the VivoSmart HR, which I'm using with MyFitnessPal. I have MyFitnessPal set to sedentary, which was all good until about two weeks ago. I also have Samsung SHealth installed and it's been whining about workout detection when I walk, so I wonder if this is somehow finding its way into my Garmin Connect.

As for collating data, is there some way to export the data or is this a manual process?

    Thanks

I think I see what's causing the issue

OK, so today I only had about 7K+ steps when I got home, as work was a little busy today. So i put about another 7K steps on the elliptical when I got home.

When I looked it MyFitnessPal, I had 600 calories for my activity and 1,245 calories for my 14K steps. So GC is double counting the calories for my steps during the activity. Not to mention, 1,245 calories seems a bit high for 14K steps.

This would make sense, as the day I hit 5K calories, I walked to work and recorded the activity as walking. So it counted the activity and the steps, although it's only about 4K steps. I also hit about 25K steps this day, so if the cal/step is off...
  • I have a Forerunner 235 - and calorie burn from regular walking is WAY to high in the past week or two...! Was under my 9k step goal...and it still said extra 800 calories burned! 'extra...."
