Auto upload greyed out

I've got Garmin connect on my Android (LG G3) phone and a VivoActive HR. According to my VAHR manual, I have to enable auto upload using Garmin Connect. When I try and do that, it is switched off and greyed out. Can anyone tell my why and how I re-enable it?

What is in the manual applies to older versions of GCM. Newer versions (3.5 and up) have this switch displayed but it is greyed-out, and it is enabled by default, so you don't have to enable it yourself. (And you cannot switch the auto-upload off if you want to).
