can't pair vivvoactive on android device "an error has occurred"

Nothing new, I've had my HTC one m8 and vivoactive for 7 months now. They've always paired fine but I've done a factory reset due to the issue of 12/24 hour settings (amongst other settings) not sticking. This was on the advice of Garmin support. Now Garmin connect will allow me to sign in but I can't pair any device, it simply says "an error has occurred" when I hit the blue "Next" button. Even if I select another vivo device, it comes up with the same error message. What's going on?

    No idea why, but it's started working! I tried it today at 5pm and all was OK. Hope it stays working...
