I cycle and have been using the edge 1000 which is great but I hate the chest strap. I just purchased a fenix 3 hr and found out it connects to all my cycling sensors so I connected all the sensors. I went for a quick spin without my edge an it uploaded my ride to strava just like the edge does. OK here is the question, tomorrow I'm going for a ride with my friends so if I use the Fenix with all the sensors and bring my edge along with the maps, will both the edge and Fenix sync together at the end of the ride or will it end up as 2 rides. What I originally wanted was for the Fenix to be used as the heart rate sensor for my edge since I absolutely HATE the way the chest strap feels. Would be awesome if garmin would use both units and combine all the info.
They won't merge together as it creates two separate rides. I use my fenix as a back up to my edge 1000 for rides that I don't want to potentially lose. You need to set your fenix 3 HR to broadcast HR mode and then pair it to your edge 1000 just like you would any other sensor.
If you want the most comfortable hr strap out there that is as accurate as a chest strap I would suggest the scosche rhythm strap.
