Android N developer preview 4 & Garmin

When the Android N DP1 dropped I flashed it onto my mobile, and had issues with my VAHR not connecting to it. I think after looking into it it's because there's an issue with location services in that version of the beta. Supposedly this affects VAHR and other devices connecting to the phone.

I've got the latest DP4 on my Pixel C now and noticed that the location services bug is now fixed. Does anyone know if this means I can put the DP4 on my mobile and it'll now connect to my VAHR?

It should, but if it doesn't rolling back to Android M is a pain as you have to factory reset the phone.

Has anyone done this? Does it work?

I might just go for it if no one's tried?

Thanks for all your replies... 😀

I decided to just go for it.

I'm now running Android N DP4. The latest build released last week.

I can confirm, that the changes Google made in the latest update have fixed the location issues, and as a result my Garmin Vivoactive HR and Edge 520 are syncing happily, and I've encountered no issues at all thus far.

If people are interested I'll update this thread with any bugs I encounter. If not, I'll stop.
  • I am interested as I want to install the next Android N preview. Any noteworthy issues I should be aware off?

Just out of curiosity, do you still need to keep location services on, or is it even needed at all to connect and sync?

The issues I've noticed with my Fenix 3 HR are with the notifications. They don't display all the info on the initial notification screen. You have to go into the details to see the info. For example, when I get a text it shows Message then a '.' (dot), where it would show the name of the person who messaged me before. Pretty annoying, but I'm okay with it until Garmin fixes it. I'm surprised they haven't been actively implementing N yet as it's been available for the last 4 months. But Android is now on the final APIs so I would assume they are working with it now... hopefully.
