Using Garmin App Overseas

Hi there,

I have a Fenix 3 and have had no trouble uploading my data while at home in New Zealand... I'm currently in France on holiday and I'm trying to upload my runs however whenever I try and open the garmin app it just stays on the opening page and doesn't go through to the main part of the app so I can't upload anything - my phone connects fine to watch but I can't sync or upload anything... my phone is currently on airplane mode as I don't want to rack up a large phone bill but I am connected to wifi and all of my other apps on my phone work fine - can anyone assist?? I've attached a photo to show the page it's stuck on - Thanks 😁
  • I just tested enabling flight mode on my phone (running Android‑4.4.2), then starting Garmin Connect Mobile on it. The app did not ‘hang’ or get stuck at the splash screen (as shown in your screenshot), but went ahead and displayed the My‑Day page, even though it alternately warned that “No internet connection available. You are viewing cached data.” and “No internet connection.” conspicuously. Connecting to my home Wi-Fi network then caused the warnings to go away.

Therefore, I think something else is in play. Have you tried restarting your phone and then the GCM app? If that doesn't resolve it, and you're connected to free Wi-Fi somewhere, I'd probably suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the app, since there is nothing to lose when the app now refuses to start as it is.
  • I used the app successfully in Africa whilst on holiday. I suggest you disable airplane mode, and use Wi-Fi connection. You should be able to toggle mobile data off /or disable data roaming to prevent mobile data use.
