Activity changes done on Connect web not reported into Connect Mobile

Very simple and annoying bug:

1. Go to Connect web interface and open an activity that is already present in your Connect Mobile app.
2. Change the maximum speed (lot of time senseless value even if speed graph is ok...) and save changes.
3. Go to your Connect Mobile app and open the same activity: maximum speed is still the senseless value...

It seems that all the changes done on activity stat data are not synced between Connect web and Connect Mobile app.
Another example is the elevation correction (that suffer of another big new never solved bug) : if you change it on Connect web, you will still find the old setting into Connect Mobile app.

Please, fix important bugs!
  • Easily proven… to not be true.

I just went into Garmin Connect online (in Safari browser on my iPad) and corrected the Max Run Cadence for a run I did a few hours ago – because my FR235 is annoyingly apt to insert one or two patently incorrect cadence data points of >220 SPM every now and then – and then switched to the Garmin Connect Mobile app to review the summary stats for that activity. The Max Run Cadence is definitely the corrected value (181 SPM) that I'd just manually entered.
  • I was thinking that to be the case because I sometimes have to correct the start time and time zone of an activity. When I make the change it might not show up on the mobile app immediately, but it does show up after a while.

In view of your posting this specifically in the ‘Garmin Connect Mobile - Android’ subsection of the forum, I've performed a few more tests this morning on my Samsung Galaxy Tab‑S (Android 5.0.2, Garmin Connect Mobile 3.6.0.1) as well as my my iPad Air (iOS 9.3.2, Garmin Connect Mobile 3.6.0.12).

On Android, it appears that the Garmin Connect Mobile app retains a cached copy of an activity if you open it for review (as opposed to merely seeing the activity listed under Activity Stats, i.e. “is already present”), such that changes to either the summary stats or the name of the activity – or even the associated gear for that matter – made in Garmin Connect online are not reflected immediately when you reopen the activity. I've tried dismissing the app, clearing cache (as opposed to clearing data) for the app in the OS settings, and even force-closing the app and then reopening it, and the app would still show out-of-date information from the cached copy. On the other hand, if the activity is merely listed in the Garmin Connect Mobile app for Android, but hasn't been opened to display the summary stats, changes made in Garmin Connect online are immediately reflected when you open the activity for review in the app afterwards.

The only way I have been able to force the cached copy to be discarded within five minutes is by signing out of the Garmin Connect Mobile app on Android, and then signing back in again.

That is not the case with the Garmin Connect Mobile app for iOS; it appears that every time you open an activity for review, a fresh copy is retrieved from Garmin Connect ‘in the cloud’, so changes made are immediately reflected. (Interestingly, it appears that the list of activities is cached in the app on iOS, such that if you edit the name of an activity in Garmin Connect online, the change may not be immediately reflected until after you have opened the activity for review following the edit.)
  • Hi ASmugDill,
with the logout you lost the devices registered with the app?

Anyhow...another app update, new stupid/useless features, but the bug is still there...this forum seems useless too....
  • with the logout you lost the devices registered with the app?
    No.

    ...this forum seems useless too....
This is a discussion forum provided by Garmin for product owners/users to exchanging information and share ideas with each other. That is its ‘use’ and purpose, which I think the forum fulfils sufficiently well.

It is not a designated customer service channel.
It is not a way to engage the company directly or meaningfully, with any reasonable expectation of an official response.
It is not a ‘message board’ to report problems and issues, lodge service requests, or submit improvement suggestions into any sort of formal queue to be reviewed and attended to by Garmin.

If you want to obtain service, or oblige others to respond to you as if you were their customer, then I'm afraid you've picked the wrong tool for your goal and wasted your own time.

  • No.

Sorry...but all the threads in this and in this kinds of forum are about "how to do something" or "bug/issue reporting" (more or less fifty fifty)...so, this is a forum where users help other users because Garmin has not provided enough information on how to use the product (and so 50% of the users act as a free of charge customer care for Garmin) and where the other 50% of the users 'wrongly' post bug/issue reports (so totally useless post that Garmin will never read and where other users could only give confirmation of the bug/issue without any benefit because no one will take care to fix it).

So, Garmin should say thanks to all the forum users for the free customer service they provide in place of Garmin itself, and a good way to do this I think could be to consider bug/issue report threads and provide the fix. Otherwise please put a big banner (but very big!) on the home page of the forum with a blinking string like "Bug/issue report threads will never consider by Garmin", because it seems that users still waist time posting useless bug/issue report threads.

When I read in the "What's new" of the Android app new release

"Your Garmin wearable can help you find your phone. Now your phone can help you find your Garmin wearable using the Find My Watch feature.*"

and clamorous bugs like this are still not fixed...sorry...but I think that Garmin does not really understand what is important for an owner/user of a device like e.g. my Fenix, I speak about the 'real' user, the user that runs, hikes, skies, climbs, ..not the one that shows to his friends that his device can found his smartphone...and please do not tell me that no one Garmin developer incurred in this app sync bug, it is unthinkable.

Anyhow I will report bugs through standard contact portal you link...and we will see...

That is available only on the latest activity showed on the snapshots...and that...it does not work anyway...
  • so, this is a forum where users help other users because Garmin has not provided enough information on how to use the product
Some of us help others because we want to, on a whim or out of goodwill, and not because we passed judgment on how much documentation has been provided by Garmin and found it lacking.

(and so 50% of the users act as a free of charge customer care for Garmin)
I'm well aware of how that works. I used to work for a company that did exactly the same sort of thing.

and where the other 50% of the users 'wrongly' post bug/issue reports (so totally useless post that Garmin will never read and where other users could only give confirmation of the bug/issue without any benefit because no one will take care to fix it).
Garmin staff do read this forum; they simply have no obligation to acknowledge anything, let alone respond. Sometimes they do.

So, Garmin should say thanks to all the forum users for the free customer service they provide in place of Garmin itself,
Occasionally a Garmin representative will thank forum members and/or acknowledge their contributions on here.

Otherwise please put a big banner (but very big!) on the home page of the forum with a blinking string like "Bug/issue report threads will never consider by Garmin",
Yet Garmin has – occasionally – both acknowledged and fixed (but not necessarily with a 1:1 ratio) issues raised by customers for discussion in these forums. It's just going to be on the company's terms, outside of your control, most likely without consultation with you, and often without keeping customers informed of progress and planned delivery dates along the way.

You seem to think and speak in absolutes. The only absolute here is that you (and I, and other customers) are not in the driver's seat. Garmin will do what it wants with what is posted for discussion here, and sometimes it reads, sometimes it acknowledges, sometimes it responds and sometimes it fixes, without being locked into any sort of commitment or bound by any sort of service obligation.
  • to report problems and issues, lodge service requests, or submit improvement suggestions into any sort of formal queue to be reviewed and attended to by Garmin.

Where is disappear the contact form for problems and issue?! Now it seems impossible to contact Garmin...only to see some few and banal help tutorial...
