Android N support

What is the plan to support Android N for GCM? I am using the developer preview version of Android N and the notifications on Vivosmart HR seems to be a bit messed up.
Is there any beta version of GCM which can be used? I would be glad to help try out any beta versions.

We haven't started implementing "N" yet.

Will you guys be in time for the official N later this year(Q4)? This might help some of us on deciding between iPhone 7 or another Android.
  • I'm also on the N Preview. Looking forward to getting full functionality restored. But I understand it's a beta and that's part of bleeding edge.

    +1

Can't wait to get a 100% working device again. Unfortunately playing in the mobile space so don't have a choice
    but to run the latest.

Fenix 3 Hr just not right without all notifications working.

Now that the Android N APIs and API level have been finalized, as of today's developer preview update, can we expect that N implementation will begin in the near future?

Given Garmin's track record with not fixing most issues reported since the watch was released, I'm sure all hell will break loose when Android N is released.

I don't think that statement is fair. Garmin has fixed a few things on the Forerunner‑235 that are obviously/arguably defects in the product upon release, and I'm thankful (as a matter of courtesy, even if it is Garmin's commercial and/or warranty obligation to me as its customer) for that.

I'm sure all hell will break loose when Android N is released.
Product owners cannot reasonably hold Garmin responsible, or claim that the products are not fit for purpose, if the products do not work perfectly with operating systems that are not available at the time of product release in the market. It will be in Garmin's best interest to make already-released products work with the later releases of mobile device operating systems, if it wants to continue to sell more units of those models before withdrawing them from the market altogether, but it's not an obligation if customers change their environment unilaterally to something that is not 100% compatible.

As a fellow Garmin customer, and as a fellow owner of several Android devices (as well as W10M and iOS devices), I could not care less whether someone else wanting to upgrade the OS on their Android devices to the latest (for security reasons, new features and what-not). It is of course their prerogative, I certainly wouldn't want to deter or obstruct them, but then it should not oblige anyone else – legally, commercially or morally – to take action to accommodate those self-inflicted changes to the IT landscape, resolve interoperability issues and mitigate their overall risks as users and consumers.

Sorry. I meant the Vivoactive HR. It's a real travesty any way you want to spin it.
  • Just got a notification on my Fenix3 HR regarding a hangout message and it showed the message and who it was from rather than just the word Hangout!

Does this mean the latest Garmin Connect Mobile is beginning to support N or was it a fluke?

It might be fixed. I restored a back up of N on my Nexus 6 and it's showing names and words instead of a dot.
