Rather disturbing. Whats going on?

Have just upgraded myself to a Galaxy S7 so downloaded and installed the GarminConnect app.

Went to sync a run and my Vivofit and GarminConnect App came up with the message.....

"Location Services Required
In order to connect and sync your Garmin devices, Connect needs locations Services to be enabled"

Why does Garmin need to know my location?
  • It's not Garmin. It's a requirement of Android 6.0. I run 5.0 and location services are not required. There are a number of threads about this in the forum.

Garmin doesn't need that data/information, and neither does the Garmin Connect Mobile app. However, Google has decided on how permissions and prerequisites for installing and running apps are to be managed categorically in Android; fine-grained user control, in preventing apps having access to more than they strictly need to perform specific functions the user wants, is not a priority or core premise in the operating system design.

If you don't like that, you'll need to take it up with Google, or switch to a different mobile device platform that align better with your stance and preferences on the matter (if one is available in the market today).
