Before it connects and shows the session....
  • Don't waste your time!

I've tried it so often in the past years since they launched it.
It never really worked. I can get a link out and people can watch, but it never kept going until I finished the ride.
Due to unknown reasons the connection stops and therefore the live track stops, even tough the track keeps on going. It does not manage to get it starting again once there is a disruption between your phone and your Garmin.
And they happen all the time.
While riding my bike sometimes Heard rate and cadence are gone for half a minute, then also phone connection is disturbed. After a while its back, but the live track is broken.
I tried, Edge 705, Edge 800, Edge 810, Forerunner 405, Forerunner 610, Forerunner 620, Forerunner 310XT and Fenix3 with HTC Sensation, Samsung Note 2, Samsung S5, Sony Xperia Z5. All the same....
Don't think its Device related, I'm fairly sure someone does not know how to test their software or is eager in creating something that really works.
But their strategy works, I still keep buying that stuff.
  • Working for me

I just tried it out a few days ago for the first time and it seemed to work great. The emailing of the link seems a little annoying each time but I was able to pull up my wife's run on my phone browser as well as my laptop and watch. It appeared to me about 4 minutes behind her actual run. I've used MapMyRun's live feature and have to say I prefer it because no email has to be sent. Simply pull up your friend and as long as they have Live Tracking turned on, your're in.

I bought an Edge 25 a few days ago and it`s taken me a few goes to get the Live Tracking to work. First time my wife opened the email before I started so it showed the workout had finished. Second time she waited about five minutes but said there was no signal. Third time, I put on my mobile data and it worked.

However, that then got me wondering, how much mobile data would you use up per mile on a cycle ride?

I bought an Edge 25 a few days ago and have had a few false starts in trying to get the Live Track to work. I didnt realise I needed my mobile data to be on and now wondering how much data gets used up per mile!

...now wondering how much data gets used up per mile!

Data collected by the Edge 25 itself (and its connected sensors) is sent to the Android app every 'n' seconds over bluetooth. The app stores that data in memory. Every 1 minute, all that data is sent up to the Garmin server. Although I can't tell you exactly what the size of that payload is, I can assure you, it is compressed to be as small as possible.
