Retired gear still appear on list

Guys,

On my android phone app when adding gear to an activity I see a list of all current and historical equipment listed together, there is no apparent difference between retired gear and active gear, and if by mistake I select a retired pair of shoes I get no indication that this is wrong. The list of gear is much longer and non user friendly than it could be, if it only showed my active gear.

Am I missing something?

Thanks.
  • On my android phone app when adding gear to an activity I see a list of all current and historical equipment listed together, there is no apparent difference between retired gear and active gear,
Retired gear is shown in italics in the Garmin Connect Mobile app for Android; active gear isn't.

and if by mistake I select a retired pair of shoes I get no indication that this is wrong.
    True.

Garmin Connect Mobile for iOS behaves in the same manner, and Garmin Connect Mobile for Windows Phone doesn't even let the user add gear to an activity.

Garmin Connect online does the right thing, so perhaps you want to use that in your browser instead for adding/removing gear.

    Possible workaround

I found a workaround which may work for you.

The list of gear on the Android mobile app lists gear in the order of

    Shoes
    Bike
    Other

Gear within each group does not appear to have any logical order, and retired gear shows up in italics in the original group. That being the case, when I retire a pair of shoes, I first change the type to "Other", then retire it. They still show up in the list, but at least now they're at the bottom and only current shoes show up at the top.

Since I don't bike, I further refined my system by changing my four current pair of trail running shoes to "Bike". Now I have my three pair of road shoes at the top (listed as shoes), then my four pair of trail shoes (listed as bikes), then my retired shoes (listed as other).

Not perfect but MUCH better than listing them all as shoes.
  • I'm having this issue too. But there's more to it than inconvenience. From the mobile app I added a new pair of shoes, and retired another pair. The pair that I retired are still visible in the list, in italics, whereas my previously retired shoes are not. Somehow gear retired from the mobile app are not treated equally as gear retired from the web-version. This is pure discrimination!
In addition, and the biggest problem, is that the new pair of shoes that I added are NOT visible in the list, so I can't select it from the app.

As ASmugDill stated, Garmin Connect Online does things right and made it possible for me to select the right gear, and once again retire the retired pair. This makes it even clearer that the app is the problem, not the back-end.
