Vivosmart HR for cycling

Hey folks! I bought a Vivosmart HR two weeks back. Can anyone of you share with me how to utilize my Vivosmart HR for cycling?
  • I effectively only use heart rate. I set to broadcast (settings/heart-rate/broadcast) and pick it up via Ant+ in Strava and record it in Strava so it uses phone gps.

    Strava Premium

Hey~But looks like I have to upgrade my Strava account to premium before I can view my heart rate over Strava. Am I right?
I am using Strava but I am just not sure if it is worthy to go for premium.
    Please advice. Tq

Wrong forum - use the VSHR forum

There is another forum specifically for the VSHR: this forum is for Garmin Connect Mobile - Android.

To give you some info about using VSHR for cycling. Apart for using the HR tracking facility, which is not very accurate - see the review by DC Rainmaker - and storing this info in GC the VSHR is of no use:
    • It cannot detect most intensity minutes for me - although this problem is possibly through my naturally low HR thresholds. Despite cycling more than 200km per week to and from work for a total of about 10 hours (e.g. see the image attached to the next bullet) I often have zero intensity minutes.
    • When I get up in the morning and cycle to work it often thinks I'm still sleeping until after I arrive at work. . Note in the image a) that the cycle icon is from my recording my ride activity using my Fenix3 and a chest HR monitor b) the position of the alarm clock icon showing when it thinks I woke up - after about an hour of clearly elevated HR.
    • If you set it to broadcast you will need another Ant+ device to receive the signal and record your HR (some smartphones have that capability).
  • I don't have a premium account and I can see my heart rate on Strava.
It is more a question whether your phone will receive an ANT+ signal.
My old phone would not but it could receive my Bluetooth HRM's signal.

Another option is the free Wahoo Fitness app which integrates with Connect and also Strava.

    Inaccurate reading

I also think the readings are inaccurate. It gave me lots of extra steps when I am driving.
To be honest I am quite disappointed with VSHR. Shall I send it back to Garmin for calibration?
