So I wanted to use the VivoSmartHR. My first step was to do some research, which is why I ended up buying an approved phone (Asus Zenfone 6). Plus the VivSmartHR that is a total of about $450 I am out. At first the Garmin app won't see the VivSmartHR even though regular bluetooth sees it just fine, so more research. After an hour or so of searching the forums here apparently even though it says nowhere in the documentation that GPS has to be turned on for it to sync. I think it's pretty lame that whoever wrote the documentation wants to give the impression that syncing is so easy they leave important information like that out, but whatever. I turn GPS on and now the Garmin app can see the VivSmartHR, but it still won't connect. What the ***? Does anybody have any suggestions?
Let's start from scratch and see if we can get it working...
1. If you see the VivosmartHR in the Android bluetooth screen as paired, then we already have a problem, as you should never see the vivo* family of devices listed there. If it is, turn bluetooth off on the VivosmartHR. Then, unpair the device. 2. In the app, open the side menu, navigate to Garmin Devices. 3. Press the "+" icon in the upper right-hand corner. 4. Press vivo, then vivosmart HR list item. 5. Fill in the user-specific screen (gender, height, birthday, etc.) but don't press "Next" yet! 6. Turn bluetooth on the VivosmartHR. 7. On the Vivosmart swipe to Pair Smartphone and tap the screen. You should see Ready to Pair. 8. In the app, press the Nextbutton. 9. In a few seconds, you should see a Searching dialog. In a few seconds, you should see another dialog "Do you want to pair with vivosmart HR?". Press "Yes." 10. Enter the 6 digit PIN showing on the VivosmartHR 11. In the app, press the Show Details button, and report back here.
So after some back and forth with Garmin support I got it working. I think what happened is for whatever reason the first attempt to pairing failed, and after that something in Garmin connect was severly dorked. Connect could see my device, but it would just not connect to it. So what ended up doing the trick is the following:
Ensure Garmin Connect Mobile is up to date (open the play store> search Garmin Connect Mobile> click update if available)
Open Garmin Connect Mobile
Touch the three bars in the upper left
Touch Garmin Devices
If your Vivosmart HR is displayed here tap and hold on the device name and select remove device
Power The Vivosmart HR off by pressing and holding the button until the countdown appears and shuts off
Open Settings on your Phone
Touch Applications or Application Manager
If applications was displayed from the previous step touch application manager
Touch the Connect app
Touch Clear Cache
Close settings and restart your phone
Once the phone restarts, power on the Vivosmart HR and follow the instructions for pairing your device.
Of course I made sure GPS was enabled in addition to bluetooth on my phone before I tried pairing again.
I got an error on this 6 ... any idea what it could be
it save the changes (I see this also on the website connect.garmin.com)
but after the 'an error occurred' , I can not continue - and back to the previous screen
