Google Fit integration?

So I found this link the other day (one of several out there)
http://ausdroid.net/2015/07/01/google-welcomes-all-their-new-google-fit-partners-and-outlines-what-they-can-do/
which says Garmin is now a Google Fit partner. But it seems, months down the track, that you can't connect to Google Fit and transfer your step and sleep data (activity data I sync in a roundabout way using Strava). I'm wondering if there is any idea when step and sleep data etc will be syncing to Google?

I wear a Pebble watch half the time as my F3 is too big to wear at work. My Plexfit on my Pebble is syncing it's data (steps and sleep, though Google doesn't do anything or show sleep stats yet) to Google and I'd love to have Garmin doing the same so I can see it all in one place! In all honesty, I quite like the GCM interface and would really like to see the data from my Pebble in GCM. Maybe if the sync could work the other way and take the data from Google that would be good too.

Regardless, I'm wondering if there's any timeframe for when this will be working? Or is there some other way I can get my step and sleep data from a Pebble watch (there's a number of apps I can use) into Garmin Connect Mobile? Or is there a third party app that will do what I'm looking for?
  • Come on Garmin, this need to be implemented asap, it should be a source of embarrassment for the company that you've got Android uses playing second fiddle to IOS who have this integration with their central health app.
It would be a shame to have to ditch a good product (vivosmart hr+) just to get Google Fit integration.
    Garmin comments?
  • It has been posted here one time before I think, but I use FitnessSyncer https://www.fitnesssyncer.com/
I'm currently experimenting with it. It seems the steps (and map if you want) of your recorded run do indeed sync to Google Fit through this service!

(Though, don't take your smartphone with you on a run, otherwise the run gets recorded by Google Fit itself as well, and it seems Google Fit prefers its own data over the data that would get pushed from the Garmin platform.
Or you can disable 'Activity Detection' within Google Fit settings itself.)

However, the steps outside of a recorded run, are currently not getting synced with Google Fit. I'm trying some stuff and will be in touch with the FitnessSyncer developers if it don't get sorted out eventually.
(Since this definitely should be possible: these steps do get pushed from Garmin platform to FitnessSyncer's internal system: you can check this once you have it set up.)
  • Having the one central location for all fitness data is a must and Google Fit and IOS Health are those places.
Says whom? Don't presume to be representative of all users of Android, iOS, or Garmin wearable devices. You are but one customer, as am I – and I own and use devices in all three categories. No, having one central location for all fitness data is not a must for me, and even if I were to pick one central location, it wouldn't be Google Fit or iOS Health. So let's qualify your statement – it's your personal view, and not something that applies to everyone; nor is it some sort of de facto standard to ought to be adopted by either the industry or fellow customers.

    Hello,

I have the same problem (Garmin to Google Fit to AOK Bonus app). I can synchronize my steps with FitnessSync (you need to select Garmin Connect WELLNESS - NOT Sport!). However, from FitnessSyncer to Google Fit, only the steps of the day before are transferred. I have written with FitnessSyncer, the developers are working on improving it - but no one can say how long it will take. So I'm looking for another way... very unfortunate that Garmin does not support Google Fit integration "natively".

    greetings,
    André
  • Says whom?

    Customers

This feature is frequently requested, and this means that customers want to have option to use that.
Not everyone of course, but exposing all your sensitive data to 3rd party site just to get partial (buggy) integration is ridiculous.

  • @Szpadel: Consumers and/or customers do not get to dictate to any party - with the force of applicable laws, industry regulations and/or technical standards - either the architecture ("one central location for all fitness data") or specific solutions ("Google Fit and iOS Health are those places") of what "must" be implemented. The only adverse impact to companies of ignoring individual voices is not getting retail revenue from those (would-be) customers, but not penalties due to breach of or non-compliance with something imposed with authority.
  • ASmugDill I see nowhere that anyone has "dictated" that Garmin implement this feature. In many of your replies you get very defensive of people indicating an interest in having a feature implemented that would increase their use of the data generated by the device. And I, like many, would like integration with Google Fit as I have a history already populated there from past devices, and it would be very helpful to maintain that having moved to a Garmin device. And it doesn't help that Garmin was called out as a Google Fit partner back in 2015.

  • Still not possible to transfer steps from Google fit to Garmin connect?
