Google Fit integration?

So I found this link the other day (one of several out there)
http://ausdroid.net/2015/07/01/google-welcomes-all-their-new-google-fit-partners-and-outlines-what-they-can-do/
which says Garmin is now a Google Fit partner. But it seems, months down the track, that you can't connect to Google Fit and transfer your step and sleep data (activity data I sync in a roundabout way using Strava). I'm wondering if there is any idea when step and sleep data etc will be syncing to Google?

I wear a Pebble watch half the time as my F3 is too big to wear at work. My Plexfit on my Pebble is syncing it's data (steps and sleep, though Google doesn't do anything or show sleep stats yet) to Google and I'd love to have Garmin doing the same so I can see it all in one place! In all honesty, I quite like the GCM interface and would really like to see the data from my Pebble in GCM. Maybe if the sync could work the other way and take the data from Google that would be good too.

Regardless, I'm wondering if there's any timeframe for when this will be working? Or is there some other way I can get my step and sleep data from a Pebble watch (there's a number of apps I can use) into Garmin Connect Mobile? Or is there a third party app that will do what I'm looking for?
  • Does fitnesssyncr sync step data from google fit to GC? I wear a pebble watch half the time which syncs my step and sleep data to google fit. If I could at least get the step data from google fit and back into GC then I'd be happy. I actually prefer GC for my data than google fit.

Or is it only able to sync actually activities (like runs and rides)?

I also have a Pebble and my step data is in Google Fit. I have not found a way to get the steps into Garmin.

    Subject: Google Fit

    Hi,

I see from a Google Developers blog post in June 2015 that Garmin is a Google Fit parner:

Endomondo, Garmin, the Daily Burn, the Basis Peak and the Xiaomi miBand are new Google Fit partners

Are there plans to integrate Garmin Connect with Google Fit?

    Regards.

The response did not quite answer the question and mentioned ever other partner except Google Fit

    Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. At this time Garmin has partnered with the following third party fitness websites to facilitate the synchronization of data from Garmin Connect.
    • Addaero
    • Beginner Triathlete
    • Endomondo
    • Endurance Tracker
    • Fetcheveryone
    • Final Surge
    • Make YES! Happen
    • MapMyFitness (MapMyRide, MapMyRun)
    • MyFitnessPal1
    • Nike+
    • Runcoach
    • Run Keeper
    • Strava2
    • TrainingPeaks
Each site has a section to link their service with Garmin Connect. From whichever site you are visiting, select the option to link to your Garmin Connect account. You will be prompted to enter your Garmin Connect credentials. Once you have done this, you will be directed to Garmin Connect at which point the sync is complete.
1The sync with MyFitnessPal is managed through the Calories In/Out widget in Garmin Connect.
2 The sync with Strava is managed through the Segment widget in Garmin Connect.

    With Best Regards,
    Diane

  • The problem with most of those solutions is they can take fitness activity data, but not things like your sleep and step data, which is what I'm after.
  • Full Google fit integration needed

Just wanted to agree with previous poster that syncing of Runs or Bikes via Strava is not a full solution (steps, sleep etc). Android has a BIG user base, the google fit app is now a nice fully featured app hence I would kindly ask development team to put this on the to do list. I use other health products (withings wireless scale for e.g.) and would like one place to see all that data aggregated - google fit is a currently a good solution for that. Garmin might mistakenly think that by keeping things this way I might buy one of your wireless scales I'm afraid I won't and also I'd highlight the lack of google fit integration as an issue to other potential users I speak to. ie the message to Garmin is you'll sell more product if you delight your users and they recommend your stuff to other people than if you keep things the way they are.
  • I have been wondering the same thing. Garmin and Strava sync nicely, adding Google Fit would be great. For now I use https://www.fitnesssyncer.com/ to sync Google and Garmin.

Can you tell me whether the steps tracked while not recording a run or cycling workout, are also being synced from Garmin Connect to Google Fit with that service?

I also sent an email to the Garmin Android developer requesting the feature. Hopefully with enough people emailing them, they will finally add it.

Also, I contacted a 3rd party android developer to see if he would be willing to tackle this feature. I think plenty of users would be willing to pay a couple of bucks for this functionality.
  • Any update from Garmin on this? Do we know for sure if it is even something they are looking at. To have this available to IOS users and not Android should be embarrassing for Garmin. Having the one central location for all fitness data is a must and Google Fit and IOS Health are those places.
It would be a shame to have to ditch a good product (vivosmart hr+) to a competitor just to get Google Fit integration.
