Excessive CPU usage causes phone to slowdown - had to UNINSTALL

I have an unrooted Galaxy 6 running latest 5.1.1
The Garmin connect service is growing in size over time & CPU usage is also increasing over time. This causes the phone to slowdown, leaving no option but to uninstall Connect.
This problem was not present in Connect version 2.13.1. It first appeared when I upgraded to 12.4. Yesterday I noticed 12.4.1 was available. I've installed this but the problem is still present & I have had to uninstall it.
I have reported the problem to Support ( nearly 3 weeks ago) but they claim that Connect usesca lot of resources and THIS IS NORMAL OPERATION. At the time I had reported Connect service process was 900 MB & 80% CPU usage.
I do not accept this can be normal. It never occurred with 2.13.1. But it appears Garmin aren't addressing was is a massive memory leak.
It's really frustrating as I could use my vivoactive with 2/13.1, even with the flaky notifications.
Now I wish I hadn't bought the watch.
The last 3 weeks have been terrible. I haven't had a firmware update for the S6 for over a month. So why did 2.13.1 work, yet 2.14 & 2.14.1 don't? Garmin need to help

I too have a Samsung Galaxy S6 running the mobile Garmin Connect App version 3.0 and it run's fine - try updating to the latest version!
  • I have installed the latest version 3.0. Unfortunately the same issue was present. I decided to try different things as Garmin Support were not very helpful & importantly didnt reconise it as an issue AND didnt offer any help.
First I turned off Access Notifications on the phone for rhe Connect app. I found that the connect service process was much better behaved and didnt increase to the very large size or high cpu usage i had previosly observed. So this looked promising. However, i didnt get any notifications on my VA and frequently during the day i had to deal with the Access Notification access popup. Just cancelling was all that was needed. So not really a work around but it did allow me to keep connect installed.
Today I updated the VA to the 3.26 beta. So far the connect service process hasn't misbehaved and this is with Access Nofitication enabled for the connect app.
So far this is looking promising.

    What is "VA" ?
I am posting because I had to uninstall Garmin Connect from my phone as well. It is Moto G (2013) and only has 512mb RAM. The Garmin Connect app eats it all up, preventing me from using my phone with acceptable performance. Had to uninstall. I have the FitBit app and Google Fit installed as well, so, I have some baseline for comparison and the memory usage of those apps is far, far less than the Garmin Connect app.

This will seriously limit the utility of my VivoSmart HR device. I mean, I might as well buy a FitBit Charge with the money I'll save on buying a new phone capable of running Garmin Connect!

Also, Google Fit can detect when I am riding a bike. But, GC/VivoSmart HR can't ?!? What is the point of having some massive, resource-hogging application installed on a phone if it can't accomplish that simple feat?

Now on to other sub-forums to complain about other aspects of the VivoSmart HR ...

DHJ49ER uses a vívoactive; that is apparent from his/her posting history.

The intended primary functions of the Garmin Connect Mobile app(s) is to facilitate communication between your Garmin device with the cloud-based Garmin Connect service, provide a user interface for reviewing, annotating and/or editing activities and other information associated with your Garmin Connect account, and enable/support some smart-watch capabilities on your Garmin device. Making use of hardware capabilities such as the GPS receiver, accelerometer, camera, etc. in your phone (or other mobile device, such as a tablet) for fitness or activity tracking is neither what it does nor what it was designed to do.

    VivoSmart HR can't ?!?
I thought the ">‑HR is equipped with Move‑IQ">vívosmart‑HR is equipped with Move‑IQ?

What is the point of having some massive, resource-hogging application installed on a phone
So you can run it if/when you so require.

if it can't accomplish that simple feat?
If you don't need any of the apps intended primary functions, then you don't need to run (or even install) the Garmin Connect Mobile app, really.

That doesn't mean it ought to do what you think such an app could or should; you're not in a position to make the call on its design or its features.

:-) What an Apropos user handle, SmugDill!
I won't be scouring your, or anyone else's past postings for abbreviation definitions.

The VivoSmart is extremely hamstrung without the Garmin Connect app. For example:
    1) cannot change the time of the alarm.
    2) no data is recorded anywhere without it -you know, the point of a tracker!
    3) No text messages, notifications; weather forcast; media control.
    4) basically cannot configure the device at all.

MoveIQ is nominally supported. I find no evidence of such.
There is no option to "run it if/when you so require." It runs constantly in the background. Only solution is to uninstall.
Maybe post less and learn to use Android.

"you're not in a position to make the call on its design or its features."
Well this is a user forum. I am a user, very possibly a soon-to-be Ex-user. Also, you know that Garmin solicits feedback on their products?
They have an idea submission page. I guess I should use that rather than engage in conversation with you.

Perhaps Garmin users all have very recent, powerful smartphones and don't care about how much resources Garmin Connect uses. Very well. I will look for another tracker solution.

That's fine. You're constraining your ability to comprehend, but that's your prerogative. I wanted to partly give you the information, and partly show everyone else how easy it could have been to obtain in without asking and demonstrating one's laziness.

So connect your vívosmart device, using the supplied USB docking/charging cable, to a computer running Garmin Express. The use of a mobile phone/tablet running a Garmin Connect Mobile app is not strictly necessary.

Move‑IQ is a feature of the Garmin device, not a feature of the Garmin Connect Mobile app.

You should, if you want to engage with Garmin, instead of soliciting feedback from fellow Garmin customers (who don't necessarily agree with your view or feel the need to abstain from responding if they don't care for your sentiments).
