Forerunner 220 bluetooth not working with HTC M8

I have just bought the 220 and the watch will not pair with my HTC M8, there seems to be a huge problem with a lot of the newer Android versions as I have seen loads of complaints, has anyone had the same issues and been able to solve the problems ?
