Alternatives to Google Timeline

Hi.

I think that this question should be asked in a generel group, but I cannot find one, so.

I have been using Google timeline for a long time, but now data is only on my phone, AND it's getting more and more inaccurate.

So, can I somehow use my Garmin Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar, with or without an app, to track my daily "movement" - either walking, running, biking, car or MC driving or....

When I track my daily walk with my Fenix 7x it's VERY accurate.

I was on a MC trip to Germany and Google Timeline was WAY, WAY of.

Not a single "leg" is correct.

What do you use to track such a route?

  • What do you use to track such a route?

The watch. In your case, I'd use either the Hike, or Walk activity. If it is a multi-day trip with no access to a charger, consider using the Expedition mode, storing the data in longer intervals (optionally between 30 and 90 minutes).

Not sure what MC stands for, but if it is anything else than walking, then select the appropriate activity (cycling, motorsport, or just "track me")

  • Thanx for reply.

    MC stands for MotorCycle.

What I find nice about Google Timeline is that it's allwas "on" - I don't have to remember to turn it on when I start a route.
AND, that it actually finds out for itself which activity was done: Walking, running, biking, car or MC. Well, most of the time!
It also put in if I e.g. stops at a tank station for petrol, stop at a bar for some other petrol and so on.
I am really being watched, but that's OK with me.
For 2-3 years ago i used Google Timeline for tracking my daily work route - not as accurate as a Fenix route, but accurate enough for that,
But, for some reason, the accuracy has gone completely bad.

All that comes with a price: POWER, and there are a lot more capacity in a phone as in a watch.

I will try to look into the "track me" thing and se how the power goes, with or without the expedition mode.

Do you know if Earthmate, Explorer and InReach can help me - I know NOTHING of those app's.

Thanx again for your time and always very serious answers.

  • The GPS on the watch is not turned on, when you do not record any outdoor activity, so you have to start it manually. Garmin apps cannot be used for recording activities.
