Instinct 2s - Weather app stops updating after a few days

Weather app stops updating after a few days.
Instinct 2s, Pixel 7 Pro, Android 15, all permissions granted, adaptive battery off, battery optimization off.
Connection is stable: OpenWeather app, Notifications work fine but Garmin weather app stops updating after a few days.
Turning on/off watch or restarting Connect app can help for a short time.

  • Does it update when you sync manually?

  • Yes, it does. I've just updated to Connect 5.7 but hasn't fixed this bug. I should make a script that restarts Connect background services or the watch twice a day... Ridiculous.

  • Not sure it is a bug in Connect, or your phone cutting or limiting the BT communication. Personally I have no such problems with my noname Android phone, though Pixel phones are known for a lot of troubles with BTLE devices. There are some tips, also specifically for Pixel, in the Sync / Connection Troubleshooting Guide, but if you google the topic, you may find other tips. Try for example https://www.google.com/search?q=pixel+btle+disconnection or similar.

  • Thanks for your help... But I've already tried everything. Connect is running in the background, I get notifications on the watch and OpenWeather app syncs fine. Sometimes weather shows moon icon at noon :D I also had issues with my previous phone, Pixel 6a. Other issues: my bank isn't supported by GarminPay, HR isn't working due my tattoos. I totally regret buying Garmin, should've bought a dumb Casio instead :D

  • OpenWeather app syncs fine

OpenWeather has no relation to the weather data used in Garmin. If you tell the weather data transfers to the watch when you sync manually, then it is clear that the problem is in the automated syncing while the Garmin Connect app is in the background. Unless you force-stop Garmin Connect intentionally when not using it, one of the possible reasons is that the phone suppresses the BT communication with GC when it is in the background.

I also had issues with my previous phone, Pixel 6a.

Yes, Pixels are known for that. Look it up on the forum, or on the web

my bank isn't supported by GarminPay

You have to ask your bank to add the support of Garmin Pay. Garmin cannot do it from their side for them. The bank has to join voluntarily. Or change the bank, or get a free virtual card supporting Garmin Pay, such as Curve.

HR isn't working due my tattoos

Use it on the other wrist, on the inner side of the wrist, or higher on the forearm. Or have a small window for the sensor laser-erased. Or use a HRM chest strap.

I totally regret buying Garmin, should've bought a dumb Casio instead :D

Return it if still possible, or sell it, and buy the Casio.

  • I mentioned Openweather to prove the connection is stable. Now I made a factory reset on my watch. If it doesn't work I give up using this functions as well.
GarminPay is not supported by TD bank. It's not my business to make deal with banks for Garmin.
My cheap, old Amazfit watch worked fine with tattoos. Both of my wrists are tattooed there's no window. Living with an HR sensor 0-24 on me is not an option.
    Doesn't worth selling: I'd lose about $200.
