How to delete marked turns when following route - Garmin 8617

On my Garmin 8617 I’ve uploaded routes plotted on an iPad. When I display and follow the route on the 8617 each turn is indicated with a white box containing the turn number, such as TURN 34.

The routes plotted using Navionics on the iPad don’t have each turn so prominently marked. I find they clutter up the display. Is there any way to set the 8617 so that it doesn’t have each turn marked with a prominent white box, but still shows the route and allows following it?

Thank you.

  • Halo. Anyone ever figured out how to hide, turn off, or not even have the "Turn #" created in the first place. In Marine application, the boxes with "Turn #" only clutter up the map. I'm using Active Captain and the same thing happens. And then, all of this clutter gets transferred to chart plotter. On a relatively simple 7 mile route I have 74 Turns. Pretty annoying. I have hard time seeing the route thru the "Turn #" boxes. Especially, these are not even TURNS, these are mostly slight changes of the direction to avoid shallow waters, which we have lot's of in south west Florida.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Anyone ever figured out how to hide, turn off, or not even create the "Turn #" text on the route. I'm using Active Captain and have Echomap UHD on my boat. Only way to create a route using Active Captain is to keep clicking on the map, or an existing way points, and as soon as I click, a "Turn #x" text box shows up. To me, this is extremely annoying. On a simple 7 mile route, I might have 75 Turns. It gets so cluttered up, that I can't see the route thru the text boxes. Most of the time these "Turns" are not even turns, they are slight direction changes to navigate around shallow waters. Then, after syncing the Active Captain with chart plotter, the route looks just as bad on Garmin screen.

Someone please help. Mods ? Garmin software gurus ??? Garmin should realize that Marine application is totally unlike street routing.

    Thanks in advance.
