Garmin Express Version 4.1.6 will not add new device

I had a problem where one activity had not synced. No idea why. This seems be happening with more frequency in my experience. Judging by the popularity of these forums and the volume of tweets etc. it appears i'm not alone.

Anyway, as I worked my way through the usual troubleshooting list of tricks... I got to the 'removing my watch from Garmin Express and re-adding it' trick. So I removed it and now Express won't detect it at all. It just says 'plug in your Device or ant stick' and never finds it. Pairing is turned on, on the watch.

I have a 405 Forerunner, so sadly I can't plug it in (the one feature I am gutted it doesn't have). I have to rely on the Ant stick. When this works, it's brilliant but sadly getting the syncing to work is becoming more pain than it's worth.

Fortunately I have another computer and even more fortunately, I hadn't upgraded Express on it. This computer was able to successfully sync the rogue activity with no problem.

Am I missing something here? Any ideas appreciated.

I am definitely losing patience with Express and I don't like Connect at all. I just want my data. I wish it wasn't so hard. I really wish I didn't have to rely on this now flakey wireless syncing.

I've had the forerunner 405 for 7 years. For a long time it was flawless. An amazing stint in the modern world of disposable tech. The watch is great and still stands up really well given its' age. It's just let down so badly by the Express software which is awful. How brilliant would it be if Garmin open-sourced it so the Garmin using tech community could help fix these frustrating, time-wasting bugs.
