This suddenly started happening after updating to the latest Garmin Express MAC software push.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing, safe power-up, etc to no avail.

I've tried setting auto proxy on my wifi, I haven't changed any network configurations nor has my ISP.

Please help this is super annoying and I can't upload any files.

    Yep me too
  • When you have uninstalled Garmin Express, are you just trashing the application? Have you tried to fully uninstall the application? If not, the full instructions are available in our FAQ:

How do I completely uninstall Garmin Express?
    http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/simpleCase.htm?caseId={df6c6c40-425e-11e2-e8a7-000000000000}&kbName=garmin

Once the uninstall is complete, reboot the Mac and reinstall Garmin Express:

If you still get the message that it cannot connect to the service, contact Product Support by phone for further assistance.

I spent over 2 hours on the phone with Garmin support and they remoted into my computer, etc. Couldn't figure out what was wrong.

They wound up installing the previous version of Garmin Express and that works fine - just don't update to the latest.

Thanks for the reply Lisa, but it still doesn't work...

where can i download the previous version?

    thanks

I don't normally go to forums, but I thought I was losing it.

Mac OS, just lately with the new version, Garmin Connect will not work. All of the steps have been followed.

GARMIN SUPPORT: do you actually try to resolve these things, or do you just ignore them and hope it goes away?

"Garmin Express is unable to connect to the background service and will close."
  • I would guess that means exactly what it says, that Garmin Express Service isn't running on your machine. It needs to be running all the time in the background. Use Activity Monitor to see if it's running, and check in System Preferences -> Users & Groups that "Garmin Express Service" is one of the Login Items for your account. The Installer should have set it up, but if you used another account when you installed Express, it may not have happened. I don't remember if it asks the first time whether it should be allowed to run in the background, but if you told it "no", then there's your problem.

    Hi,

    Appreciate the reply but:

    1. It is part of the log-in items.
    2. It is running but "not responding" in activity monitor upon start-up.

Everything was working correctly until pushed to the new update.

No settings changed on the computer before the update to now.
